On our third nite going to cape we planned to stay at endevoue fall. Can i have opinion please. Not a lot of people mention it. Is it just crap. from cairns to endevoure fall with out stopping how long will this journey take. We do plan on stopping but need to try to figure out how much time we have.

If there is something better not to far from there please let me know

I'd be inclined to camp at the Lions Den... but that's just me. I've never camped at Endeavour falls so don't know what it's like.

Lions Den is my choice as well. A nice drive from cairns along the coast through Cape trib and a nice relaxing night at The Lions Den Hotel, a great place to meet up with people who are on their war back. Then off to Lakefield via Cooktown and colored sands.
Better stop thinking about the cape.

Batesy, Marks (ex weipa) wife Jill grew up at endevour falls and said its a great place, you can visit the falls without staying there, just need permission to walk through. The only draw back from cairns to there in one day would be not having enough time at Lions Den or to look around Cooktown.

I'm heading over that way tomorrow for a few weeks, so I might go and have a look around.

Apparently there's a bloke in Cairns that is part of the magazine... haven't seen or heard of him in weeks.

Batesy, sounds like your deserting the ship before the rats arrive in weipa. I thought you might hold a BBQ for them and feed em up on barra and crabs.

Yeah, I didn't even think about that ... can't help good luck, I guess!

I think I should be back in Weipa by the end of the month or the first week of July at the latest if anyone is around then.

endeavour falls is a very nice place to stop for the night , short walk to the river and falls and nice green grass to camp on with plenty of shade. My wife and i stopped there for a look on our way to cape flattery and connie bay , just a bit further on is a small crossing called isabella falls that look absolutly fantastic, i hope to stop there this time, not sure if i can stop for the night but i think there was a good little spot there to set up just for overnight.

if anyone is stopping at the lions den , ask about the snake man across the road . If he is around he is only to happy to show people his snakes and he has quite a few and tells a good story well worth the time

Theres a couple of little spots to camp, just across the falls is a little spot on yhe left and another on the right about 50m past. My first camp there I decided to sleep under the stars, and my luck it pissed down rain in middle of the night, gets noisy when you use a tarp for a doonah.

I stopped in at Endeavour Falls when I was in Cooktown the other week. Seems like a nice little spot. I really like that area outside of Cooktown (McIvor Road) everything is always nice and green out there.

There were a few travellers using the cabins at the park and only one other couple there with a camper trailer.

I think it's a bit of a toss-up whether to stay there or Lions Den. Can't go wrong either way.

for anyone wishing to hang around cooktown for a few days , cape flattery and connie bay are a fantastic spot about 2 hours north of cooktown it,s good for camp or day trip at low tide you get a 20 k beach drive that is better than the main highway into sydney , theres a big sand hill to climb to get off the beach on the way out but i made it in a standard rodeo .
as long as you are having a good time who cares what you drive aye

well said tully, the nissan \ toyota debate will go on and on and on, makes for some good reading, like tyres, good and bad, as long as you have fun who cares, ive been pulled out heaps but i still keep on goin, when you get pulled out by a 2 wheel drive then you need to change you vehicle. While im on has anyone got any 12v lights with a merit plug on them and where do you get them from. t\a

Tully, you got it in one.
The main thing is to get out and see this country, regardless of what you drive.

I HATE to admit it but I have been recovered by a Rav 4, Dipmaker I'm sure will be more then eager to vouch for that.
It's amazing how much trouble a 100mm branch and a wet narrow track can give you.
