View Full Version : Making Contact

Seems there are going to be a few trucks wondering around with CapeYorker stickers on the windscreen, how do we contact fellow Croc Crew members?

Do we flash our lights, madly wave our arms, hang out the window as we pass, yell at the oncoming vehicle?

Although I would consider all of the above as normal behaviour for Yota drivers, it may be a bit disconcerting for our fellow road users.

I propose we use UHF channel 13 as a means of making contact with fellow Croc Crew members.

What do you think?

That would make sense to have a designated channel that you could just flick over 2 for a yarn, I am either on ch40 or scan so 13 sounds alright 2 me. although some may not like that number lol

I have gon out to the fourby and put it on channel 13. Never say yoyo's not organised and quick to action.

Just double check with kingchevy as he did mention what channel are mostly used there by the locals so that we do not pick one of theres. He listed around 5 or 6 can't remember were he posted that thread thou

That's what I was thinking about 13, I know of a few people that don't like that number dosen't bother me though.

S'pose it's just my sick sense of humour, plus I don't mind walking under ladders and kicking the odd black cat.

13 is just a number for me, any channel will do.
Kingchevy, you're a local, what do you reckon, pick a number, obviously not 40 etc.
Maybe 10, the 4WD channel, I'll pass the baton to you :)
I also don't mind passing the buck :)

Nedly you are an ideas man!
What a great idea and a perfect number. I live at No: 13 so no probs with me using that one- I may even find it a little easier to remember whilst trying to juggle a cold beer and the handset. Of course this would only be happening while I am stationary at a campsite outside of an AMP area somewhere!

DONE, UHF 13 it is then.

Thanks Ant, I had concerns about getting passing drivers attention without spilling my drink, which of course would only have been coffee ;)

Here are a couple of ideas.....

1: Croc-a-doodle-doo

2: just make the low-down growl of a croc

3: Croc one calling Croc two do you read me over?

4: 10-4 rubber duckie, looks like we got ourselves a 'crocvoy'

5: Croc Crew, Where are you?

6: Holy S*#t, was that a Croc I just saw on the front of that Cruiser?

7: Ant, put your beer down and pick up the receiver!

Why dont you make up a capeyorker croc sheet and the first person to get to say Musgrave put it on the notice board and everyone put in the time and date they arrive with their call sign, vehicle etc so everyone knows who is where and who is in front of them. Leave one at all the roadhouses etc.

Do you think it might be worth cheaking to see who is going to up there at the same time first, I really don't know how many of us will cross paths. If you guys fill in the Forum Calendar With a few start/ Finish dates we will know who is going to be up there at the same time, and who might be able to Catch up with one another.

Just click on the Calendar in the red bar at the very top of the page and then just click on add event I think. See how you go. Nedlys and my Dates are up there just click on each month to see the events and click on the event to see details.

yeah sort of had to keep a tight schedule got 5 4wd's in tow. Didn't want to get up there and be blewing about where we are to go next or how long we were going to camp in the 1 spot. Most of the trip is planned out and everyone know's where we are going before we leave home. Have left plenty of room to make a few changes when we are up there, if it rains or we have a break down or some thing.

We will be arriving in Cairns pm on Sun 29, leave am Tue 31.
We'll be staying at a place called 'Cool Waters Holiday Park', bit of luxury before hitting the bush.

Just finished layout for the July edition of Fish and Boat (11hours sleep in over the last 80 hours). I am a walking zombie.

Now it is time to pack all the fishing gear and the car and head off to Lakeland for Monday night before I go hiding in the bush and catch fish at spots 'X', 'Y' and 'Z'.

Hope to see some of you guys on the track somewhere and to get in contact through CH13. If I am in the cruiser, the radio will be on.

Have a safe one.

PS: We have over 30 fishing rods we are taking up (only 5 guys) for some serious tackle testing. Dam this sort of work is hard!!!!!!!!!
