Hi all,
Can anyone give me any information about Lockart River for a stopver, i,e what there is to do there, is the fishing any good & is it worth a 2 day stay?
Thanks,
Grahame M
Grahame,
Give the guys at Iron Range Cabins a call as they should be able to point you in the right direction. When you talk with them let them know you got the details through our site as it helps then to know how people find them.
Follow the link for more info: http://www.lockhartriver.com.au/
As for the Lockart area, I do know that the council/shire is looking at doing a lot more for tourists so it would pay to check it out as there may be a few new ventures that have started up since the last tourist season. I am pretty sure they also have hire cars too, but that probably isn't what you are looking for.
Last year, I spoke to Paul Papiva (not sure if the surname is spelt properly). He was based on the council/shire and seemed to be very proactive and helpful.
Hope all of this is of some help and if you do head in there, be sure to get back on here and let us all know how it went.

Lockhart River is pretty much untouched as it is fairly hard to get to.
There are a few ramps around, one is at Quintell Beach (I think I got it right), in the community, and the other is at the Claudie River.
Both require a bit of open water travel but the Claudie is more protected, but still open.
The locals never liked unnanounced visits, although that may be changing.
The other option is camping at Chilly Beach and beach launching.
There is also reef systems around the place which are probably closer and easier to access than the river system.
Geoff did spend a bit of time there a year or two back and may be able to give you more info.
Where is Stacky when you need him??
He's been very quiet lately,
Cheers,
xina.
