Well, what's happening up here?

Very little it seems.

The movement of tourists has only just begun in the last few weeks. The season is still a little quiet at the moment.

The PDR is still highway-like according to all reports. So anyone who comes across the 'Road Closed' signs near Cooktown or Mt Molloy shouldn't worry... the road is definitely OPEN.

Our quick little trip up the Southern section of the OTL a few days ago left us astounded that there wasn't a single car or camp on the track!!

The OTL bypass (PDR) had a few minor lumpy spots in places but had a grader and roller going over a large section near Bramwell.

Those lucky few of you who make the trip during the next few weeks are going to have a great road to travel.

We even copped a bit of rain at Fruitbat Falls and down the bypass - enough to compact the road and settle the dust.

I'm not sure what the conditions are like on the run into Bamaga. Hopefully some travellers will be able to enlighten us on their return.

So how much rain do you need to get before i start getting concerned, I will be there in about 4 1/2 weeks.

You won't be coming across any rain that will be of concern. The kind of showers we get from here on in are welcome because they settle the dust --- they won't do anything more than that.

Ahhhh, rain, us lot in Brisneyland have read about that stuff before, I wonder what it's like.

We're about 8 weeks away, here's hoping the tracks don't deteriorate too much, just enough to make it interesting and enjoyable :)

The rougher roads the better, so you can experience the sound of your 4b and trailer just before it explodes into a pile of beaten metal. Not quiet that bad but enough to make you think is about too.You can see why I wont take a new car to the Cape as you have to live with the rattles and bumps until you sell it.

We have been forcasted a heap of rain over the next week Noosa received 70mm in the last 2 days. Are you getting any of it up there. looking at the austar satellite looks like there is a bit of cloud up that way.

It's really frustrating looking to the North and seeing all that heavy black cloud.
Seems like every time I speak to Dipmaker all he says is "it's pooring up at Caboolture".
Might have to buy some muddy's just to get past the Sunshine Coast

yeah i know what you mean but none of is going into the dam.

I don't like the rain as it costs me money. As i can't do anything while it even looks like its going to rain. I've always said that rain should only happen at night time and only 3 or 4 time a month but mother nature isn't organised like me

We're getting showers in Weipa every couple of days - very odd for this time of year. But it's nothing that you could call proper rain. Certainly nothing that will hold you up anywhere along the road.

Do the tracks get very greasy and slippery with this sort of rain. As i will be towing trailer and will be grossing around 4tonne at least

Just enough to keep the dust down Batesy.
