Was talking to contractors from Cooktown and was informed there are two gangs working the Bathurst Bay tracks...one gang working the coast road a la Starkie's and the other from Lakefield....
The contact lasts for 3 years they got a bit of that govenment money to spare and there trying to upgrade the tracks in...
As for camping,Lakefield have some great spots as do's barramuni creek and the coast run has sites on the major rivers re Starkie and Jeanie...
There are tracks into the coast that follow the rivers down, and can be a little bit hard to find but the runs in are ok... as well as Wakooka beach and also Ninian's bay.

We go up later today, but have to wait for the servo at Hopevale to open to get a permit.
Differing reports are telling us different prices.
It is either $10, $15, or $20 per car per day.
Will confirm later.

Seen a fair bit today including Elim beach and the coloured sands from a distance. The tide was in and I wasn't allowed to swim the baby across the shallows.
What a beautiful spot.
Not far from where you drive on the beach is a lovely campground at a place called Eddies. From what I understand he makes craft for a living but can do touristy things for you and show you how the indigenious live.
His camp is $10 a night per adult and it includes campsites on the beach, toilets and showers although they might be coolish.
The permit from the general store today for access to Elim beach was $10 for a vehicle but the shop is only open from 11-1 on Sundays. I dont know what the money covers but for $10 what a bargain.
The community centre normally sells the permits.
Will post some pictures later.
