Makes you wonder doesnt it just how some people manage to avoid accidents. This guy is certainly on the right track for a cracker of a surprise.

G'day Geoff,

You certainly can see how damage occurs.

I have just returned from our jaunt up to the TIP, and tried to look you up.
Only problem was the Info Centre is now closed, is this where you operated from?

We had a bloody good trip, and no problems which was good.

regards,

Geoff.

Glad to hear you had a good trip mate.

I worked at the information centre in Bamaga up until April this year. I work just down the rd now at Cape York Traders.

If only we had known where you were.

The young fella in the servo next to the Info Centre told us you had your mother home and had gone away on holidays.

We loved the cape, and the OTL was not a problem. The camper trailer went the whole distance without any worries, not like one we saw on our way home. It had been rolled on the southern bypass road only hours before we came through.
It looked like a new one, and all that had been removed was the wheels and suspension.

We were also told that 3 vehicles crossed the Jardine on the old crossing, and one was swept downstream, bloody idiots.

It sounds like there are still some getting caught out in Nolans Brook, probably not taking the time to do the walk first.

Time to start planning our next trip now, maybe we will catch you up there in the future.

regards,

Geoff.

Not sure what the guy in the servo was talking about but i havnt been away since May.

The OTL is no hassle provided one has a bit of common sense and is not rushed for time. As for the camper trailer, what can one say other than he was speeding? Crossing the Jardine River at the old crossing is a no no in my book and i much prefer to pay the ferry man. Hell of a lot cheaper than fixing or replacing a car.

I was in at the local machanice the yesterday to pick up my car after having new bushes put in. While i was waiting i overheard him on the phone with an insurance compaany. Apparently their client had drowned his car at Nolans. He managed to get it out and was slowly limping to the Jardine Ferry with some serious engine problems. The car was a Toyota Prado.

I will be around here for a few years yet so there is a good chance that i will see you up here.

The Cape tracks are hard to explain. What may look easy, can often turn out to be very hard and of course, the opposite can also apply.
Nolans may not look all that bad and many people drive it with ease. I did it last year with a fully loaded trailer and had no problems.
I will say though, that out of all the crossings on the OTL, Nolans is the one that still makes me feel uneasy. It can catch the best of us and when it does, it can be a very costly exercise.
I will be glad to get through it on this years Tag-A-Long. Lets just say that a few cold beers will be consumed once I make it across (hopefully).

I am yet to drive nolans brook I am looking forward to it though can't be as bad as driving to moreton in the wet season and someone forgot to tell us there was tracks around all the deep stuff. We were crossing water half way up the windscreen.....
