I remember reading an article on a Baby Austin being the first car to make it to the Top.Spotted one today and took a couple of photos. Imagine Nlans Brook in this one.

Just had a quick flick through the book. It was a couple of New Zealand lunitics in 1928. Apparently back then the road ended near Mt Molloy near Cairns. For anyone with the book their is an impresive piccy of the raft the fellas used to get the thing over the Jardine river (page 51). If its not against copywright I can scan the page?

I keep looking for a copy of the book, no luck so far though.
Will have to re-check the second-hand book store near work.

I just want to read it, not buy the company.
I'm not the sort of person who'll buy a book as an investment, to me they're just something to be read.

I wonder if the guy who owns the little car would lend it to me for a re enactment of the trip. Nolans may be a challenge though

Campdog,
I reckon you would be able to fit a snorkel to it somehow.

Last i heard the car was in England and owned by the Austin company.

for some reason I thought it was in Gladstone.
Also I think a bilge pump would be more useful than a snorkel.

Do what you always do Campdog when going through a creek. Open the doors so there is less water pressure on the car.

A good example of the Austin can be seen at the Laura Hotel, also lots of good info on the Cape at the Cape York Heritage House in Coen, many tourists to the area miss visiting this old house, as we nearly did, jst happended to stop outside it for smoko on our way back down south.
