The road out to Somerset has been graded now and the road down from the cannons to the beach has been graded and gravel put down.

Over the next couple of weeks construction of a toilet and huts will commence.

There is also a good chance that a camping fee will be charged as well.

G'day Geoff,

Interesting to hear of these changes going on at Somerset. I just hope that there is maintenance planned to go hand in hand with these improvements.

Who's doing the work?

Unfortunately, I've seen too many nice Toilet Blocks go in, only to see them vandalised, not maintained, then sit there as an eyesore for years to come.

Anything else happening up your way this dry season? Any recent whispers about the old Pajinka lodge ?

Cheers

Scorcher

Hi Scorcher,

In regards to maintenance, i hope it works out like they planned. As im sure you know, back in the 90's they installed toilets as Somerset and the local rangers were supposed to maintain the area. This sort of worked for a year or two before it stopped happening and the area is as it is now.

A local contractor has the contract to put the hut and toilet's in. From what i have heard, it will be getting put in the next couple of weeks.

Everything has been a nit quiet up this year. Just found out today that there is a variety bach up here next month. Apparently about 300 people but we will see.

I also have not heard anything new about Pajinka.

I did a 4WD Variety Bash to the Cape in about 2000 and they were out of control. We stayed at the Pajinka Lodge which was still open at that stage and it was disappointing to see it in ruins last year. What a waste!
