Hi All,
Getting closer to moving to Weipa.
I have a Mazda Tribute, will it survive around the area? There is a long weekend just after getting there, so would like to go camping somewhere?
Cheers

G'day outbackjack,
My limited experience with Tributes is that their belly is pretty close to the ground. We have had one get stranded in soft sand because of this.
Once you get to Weipa the roads in the area are well maintained so shouldn't be too much of a problem, but low ground clearance will be an issue in accessing some places. Loading the vehicle with camping gear will only make the problem worse.
That's my opinion anyway, one of the true locals up there should be able to give you a more definitive answer.

Nedly,
Ok thanks for your response.
I dont consider it a real 4wd. I do have a Ford Courier Dual Cab in Mackay. However it will be a few months before that goes to Weipa.
Just hope to do a little camping. I wouldnt think it is capable of to much.

A few years ago I had an '02 model V6 auto dual cab Rodeo. I dragged it's belly everywhere but it would never get stuck. I lie the sharp sand blow ridge on the top of Big Red stopped it. Ten minutes digging got the front wheels back on the sand and away we went. I strengthened the bash plate and fitted a front ARB air locker (the rear comes standard with a good LSD). You just drive them within their limits and be prepared for a few thumps underneath it. Make the best of what you've got!

Just have to hit the high spots at an angle which might help. Sometimes things in life are not ideal but most times you can make do with the resources you have.

As mentioned. I dont take it as real 4wd, but would like to go camping before my 4wd gets there.
