I swear to god that the Peninsula Developement Road is a living, breathing thing.
From all reports the road is still resonably highway-like (20th May 2007) but I can't guarentee that things will change over the course of the coming weeks/months.
We residents of the Cape have a love/hate relationship with this road - we hate travelling it all the bloody time, we hate wrecking shockies, we hate the distance/time.
But we love completeing the journey. The state of the PDR is always a topic of conversation. It's an icon up here. Once you travel it, you feel like a little piece of you has been left forever in Cape York ... hopefully it's just pieces of your soul - and not your car/trailer/bike etc.
The main offenders:
1. Corrugations.
2. Dust holes
