Hi All,
Was hoping someone can help me. We ( a group of 5 Vehicles with Camping trailers) are leaving Cairns around 1st Juy 2009 to do the Cape .Have heard a few different stories about whether we need to book camp sites .
Can anyone advise of the need to book sites at say Hann River,Archer River,Weipa,Bramwell Junction,Elliot falls,Sesia,Coen etc.
Also what is the go with bush camping. - what places would we be able to/not able to camp.
Any advise on good spots or any other info will be greatly appreciated as we are all Cape virgins lol.

G'day Nev,
With 5 vehicles + trailers it would probably be worth booking ahead, July is probably one of the busier times up that way.
In the past I've found if you can organise your arrival time for early afternoon finding suitable camping sites is not a problem.
Weipa - does not take bookings.
Coen - camp at 'The Bend', about 3km north of town, a nice spot.
Seisa - book in advance
Bramwell Junction - I'm not sure if they take bookings.

Nedly, what about Loyalty Beach campground, is it also a similar deal for booking ahead?
We will have three trailers and three vehicles.
Geoff.

G'day Geoff,
I think for all the commercial areas north of the Jardine it is a good idea to book ahead, including Loyalty, regardless of the time you are travelling.
Be nothing worse than getting up there and find you can't get sites next/near one another, unless of course you're hoping for some 'alone time'.
Booking ahead also allows you to request preferred sites, though there is no guarantee.
