Hey Googy, good to hear from you again.
My brother inlaw took one to the cape in 06 and it was OK.Only problem was setting up camp for a few days and not being able to drive around unless packing up.If only two people I would use one.

Googy,
I am thinking of getting one to put on the top of my trailer.
I think they have some merit.
I will let you know once I get to use one. I am hoping that I will have it for the Tag-A-Long later this year.

If your happy to pack up camp everyday before you head off then their great.
To bad if you just need to get to the bottle shop and get more beer and come back to camp though.
I neally bought one off 'Trackabout' years ago but weighed up the positives and negatives and went against it.
Setting up like Ant suggests is fine because it's not attached to your vehicle.

Yup, Fair point about moving around. there is nothing better than setting up a base camp and heading out to explore the region. that is of course as long as your $1000 fridge and and generator and the gear you've been collecting for half your life is still there when you get back.
I wonder if I could set up a ply roof over my boat trailer and use that.
No.Not another project.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Just about every time i have been out camping. Except for the last couple of times of course because i have used a Tentcot.
My style of camping is a tarp, and a self inflating mattress or even just a lseeping bag. Never had problems with snakes and such if that is what you are thinking about. And dont believe that a piece of rope or salt around your swag will stop a snake if it decides to pass your way. Its a myth.
If you are worried though, you can pick up a good light aluminium folding stretcher. Alternatively, a Tentcot is ideal as it has a mattress, mosquito netting and a fly all in one.
Eldo,
Here is how I have spent my time camping in Cape York over the years (in no particular order:
Tent
Swag
Hammock
Sleeping bag on the ground
Tent Cot
Back seat of a car
All of these have been memorable and each depends on time of year and location.
For a 'one type fits all', the swag or tent cot would be my pick.

At the moment I use a camper strecher and roll my swag out on that usually under a tarp. I usually hang a mozzy net over the top and tuck it in under my swag. the problem is (and would be worse in a roof top camper) is that after a big day of rehydration (that's drinking a skin load of beer)and being still half pissed. draining the main vain can be an adventure trying to find your way out and then back in. I've always wanted to carry a couple of metres of polly pipe and use that as an extention but never think of it again until I'm in that situation (again)
Googy,
You have two choices.
1: Take an empty bottle to bed and when the morning comes, empty that bottle.
2: Learn where the tent zip is, and just roll to one side.
enough said.

Googy, they tell me a bike tube works wonders, well it does at the footy.
Eldo, I have spent heaps of time in a swag and find it the best sleep I get anywhere. Had a few dramas though and that is the wildlife like the bandicoots at the mouth of the Jardine who for some reason cannot see the swag and continue to run into it all night. They are on the endangered list - wonder why - and are only said to be located in 2 places known to man. That is one of them, and the other is deep in the tablelands.
Swags take 2 mins to set up and 5 mins to pack up, which is ideal IMO.
