Geoff,
Great pics - keep them coming.
I think there are a lot of people out there who have no idea what the Cape is like in the wet so this is the sort of thing that will be of interest.

Bat- have you got any from your area?

Just got word today, the Archer is 8mt deep as of this morning. I cant see too many cars crossing that one. It came up pretty fast last night and hasnt gone back down.

Anything is possible Ant. I would offer to pick you up in the Gulf but it is a tad rough out that way at the moment.

gday,

well the cyclonic conditions have hurt me! have lost a huge amount of bank in last 24hrs. more than in the last 8 yrs. i have no photos yet but in the morning, i will do some before and afters. i hate to think how Saibai, and Coconut islands are fareing. My wife is worried the house is going to be claimed by the sea. time will tell, but to say i was surprised is an understatement. Ant, (hes stayed here) you will be blown away by the damage.

fingers are crossed.

cheers

Bat,
Hang in there mate.
And I thought you were close enough to the water when I stayed there!!!!

Maybe Nic can build a jetty from the front door?

In all seriousness, I hope that it doesn't get that bad. It is hard to imagine the area being that rough as we (tourists) see it in relative calm when we visit. Goes to show what Mother Nature can bring.

Awesome pic's.
It's hard for us tourists to imagine the water being so high.
When I was last at Seisia it was a long way from the top of the wharf to the water, in these pic's you'd have to be worried about croc's stepping up to say hello.

Peddell's are only doing morning trips over and back now, none in the arvo due to the high tides we are having. The tides at the moment are about 3.5mt plus the wind is pushing it up a bit further.

Spoke to Peddell's this morning and they said that because the water is really high it could be dangerous as the waves could push them onto the jetty pretty hard.

Is that the one just at our driveway?

I was looking at a few trees in our yard and out the front and wondering if they'll last another wet season. I wonder if the one over the powerline leading into our house is still standing.

We called Ergon several times to have someone look at it before we left, they said they were coming but never showed......well not in the 10 days we were there anyway.

I'll bet the grounds getting pretty soaked and soggy up there now after this dump of rain passing through. Iknew this year was gonna be a good wet season and i'm missing it. Nice and sunny here with some pretty good waves for a surf too.

Never mind Stacky, you'll still be living in the best place on earth when you get back. [ Gotta be some minor drawbacks. Nowhere's absolutely perfect.]

Yes, its the one in your driveway. I wouldnt rely on the boys from Ergon up here if i were you. The only time things really get done is when the guys from Cairns come up.

Believe it or not, that pic was taken yesterday morning. Today is blue skies. Still plenty of wind though.

Hey Geoff, how did the Seisia and Loyalty Beach camp grounds go, were they flooded at all?

Seisia was lucky. The water came up to the top of the beach, if it had of been 15cm higher it would have though.

As for Loyalty Beach, the water came right up to the lodge itself. There was a bit of flooding happening there as well as fair few trees and branches coming down. Its a great day today, no rain. It wont take long for the water to dissapear.

Spoke to a friend today who is the loadmaster for the rescue choppers on Horn Island. He is sending me a heap of photos of flooding on some of the islands. I asked him how Saibai and a couple of other islands fared and all he said was "ok, they tied the boats off to their verandahs, the water was that high".

Is there any reef structures through Albany passage. Have only sailed by and seen from land never had time to explore fishing wise. It did look fishy though.
On the sail through we had the biggest bird flock chasing bait schools that you have ever seen.

Yes, there are a few reefs through Albany Passage. Also one good spot to soak a bait is in a hole in the passage. You have to fish it on a slack tide though and even then, there are a few sharks. I havnt fished it for a while now. Bat might have though.

I have hooked onto a few big spaniards and trevs in that passage especially just off Fly Point itself.

Some great shots Geoff.
We saw probably half a dozen large turtles while at Fly Point last August.
Drowned a dead prawn while there, didn't get a bite :(
Nice spot though.

nice shots there Goeff,
i thought the water would have gotten dirty than that considering it's the wet or is it still to early in the season? or is it to far from any major river systems to dirty it up through there?

Geez, i wanna go home.......i'm spending to much money in main stream life.
I've still got about 4 weeks or more to go.

Geez, i wanna go home.......i'm spending to much money in main stream life.
I've still got about 4 weeks or more to go.

The three days i was out there the water wasnt the clearest. There were plenty of clouds of dirty water but that was mainly due to the strong currents in the chanels.

Visibility wasnt the best. I would be looking over the side of the boat trying to see the bottom and my sounder is telling me it is 2.5mt deep. The main reason for the water becoming dirty is the wave action on the beaches from the westerlies i think. However i'm sure the runoff for the wet will be a factor too.

The wet seasonn hasnt started yet, we are still getting the build up to it. The weather is beautiful at the moment. A couple of local boys went chasing crays at a spot not too many people get too and they came back with a feed of big crays. I have been tempted to go there myself and get a few. They said the visibility was good and they could see the crays from the boat.
