Take a throw-a-way camera with you at all times Dave. Get a shot of them to take with you when you report them. [As many as you can.] I believe you can get under-water ones now, so a little bit of moisture shouldn't affect them if they get splashed, and they're about the same price as the normal ones.
Cheers,
xina.

I use to be a Professional Fisherman for years from the Tweed to Princess Charlotte Bay and then the gulf Trawling for prawns to crabbing Moreton Bay
And all the laws we followed to the letter and yet still every day somewhere in this country SCUM are raping the same waters we spend our lives either as a PRO or RECREATIONAL Fisherman Protecting

I agree with you Campjunky, there are rules and regulations that most people try to follow, however some believe that those rules do not apply to them.
I know for a fact that the Burdekin area is rife with that culture amongst amatuers however they still net everything illegally. These people complain about a bad days fishing when the nets fail to catch esky loads.

Interesting how this is all coming up at this time of year.
Part of my editorial in the January Fish and Boat is about what you guys have been talking about here.
The only way to start to make a difference is to have the fishwatch number in your phone and call them whenever you see something like this. You can ask to be kept informed and they are usually pretty good with this.
Legislation is there for a reason. It is not the rec fishos against the commercial fishos. We both share the same water.
yes i agree totally with you guys . i wasnt on that trip !
if i was i would of taken there rego number .
Its just such a pitty that these top fishing spots when the word gets out the scum move in and rape it. and the people that buy black market fish crabs! are just as low life.

the prob is jack that your avarage person dose not no what to look for
thay could well of been licensed of all anyone could tell
allso not sure if this could make any diffrents one of the 3 guys was idigenous fella.
the boat in question had rego numbers, should it not have a fishing license number on the boat as well?
Guys,
I decided to move this thread to its own topic as it was a little off the original topic of fishing Seisia.
To follow on from your last post Dave, a pro or commercial fisher must have their rego displayed on the boat. If it was a rec fisho then they were breaking the law regardless of whether they had someone with them that was indigenous or not.

Good to hear your coming to Townsville anything to do with fishing does well here.
Question. I am looking for a map of Bathurst Bay that shows the smooth water area or in short, where the limits are so that you don't need an EPIRB.
I'm hoping to do a trip this year and there should be about 3 tinnies going,
They do a map for Cooktown and Weipa but nothing in between.
Thanks

You would have to ring Maritime Safety Qld to find out about the smooth/partially smooth water limits. You are allowed to operate in smooth and partially smooth water limits without an EPIRB. Also, you dont have to have an EPIRB if you are operating within 2 nautical miles of the coast.
Contact details for your nearest MSQ are at the following-

googy,
don't know if it applies for bathurst bay, but check the front of the Qld Gov tide book. it has a heap of basic maps showing where the partially smooth waters are. hope that helps.
cheers
