Some of you may be aware that I recently returned from 15 days in Cape York. The aim of this last trip was to involve some of our advertisers and to also get some new material for next years magazine. I now have over 2,000 pics to sort through and a stack of work to do.

In short, the trip was a real success and everyone who was involved had a great time. We had reps from TJM, PolyCraft Boats, Rhino Rack Australia and Kerry D Fishing Charters.
I will post up a few pics.
While I am on the topic of images- wait till you see next years Cape Yorker front cover!!!!

Thanks Al,
It was a pretty tough gig.

One of the guys on the trip commented that the week he spent with us was the best week of his life - outside of his honeymoon.

I think I can speak for all of the guys on the trip when I say that it is pretty hard to get back into the swing of things again.

Hey Ant,

Some nice shots amongst those !

Especially the one of your vehicle on 3 wheels !

How did the trailer go with the boat up high on the frame?

And did you get the nerve to go for a heli flight??

Hi Scorcher,
The trailer was exceptional. Did the whole telegraph track without a hassle. The position of the 2nd PolyCraft on the trailer wasn't really an issue, although the whole rig (Cruiser and Trailer) was pretty heavy which knocked my fuel consumption around.

Yes I went for a heli flight and will be back to do it again. Words cannot explain what it was like.

I can't take the credit for the idea of the 2009 front cover. I had Warwick (from TJM Cairns) here yesterday and he was the one who came up with the idea. Wait till you see it. Honestly, it will be hard to beat.

Highlift,
We used them for each and every night while we were away and I would give them 'the thumbs up'. Easy to set up and pack down and they don't take up as much room as a swag.

I am looking at doing some ordering on behalf of forum members if anyone is interested.

xina,
We used it a little bit. Not as much as I had anticipated but there was a lot to cover on the trip. In my opinion, I would rate them. They sure make the meal an easy option when out in the sticks.
The recipe book you get with the unit is very impressive too. I am going to be trying a few of the recipes here at home over the next few weeks just to make it feel like I am still camping.

You know you can get recipe updates on the net, don't you? I've still got to try mine yet, but only having myself to cook for, I don't do much of that these days. Have to start for when I do get on the road though.

Hey xina,
I can see an excuse for bringing it along on the tag-a-long trip.
I will bring mine and you can bring yours. We should be able to cook up a meal for the whole group.
They are similar to a 'slow cooker' and I use that all the time here at home.

Hey Geoff,
You did well coming on board through the trip and putting up with the fellas. I acknowledge that they were very demanding and that it must have been hard for you to remain relaxed with such a crew.

On another note. Providing I can get through the work I have in front of me, I am hoping to get to the DVD stuff early next week. It will take some time to sort it all out as there is a lot of footage there, but I am sure it will be worth it in the long run.

We were trialing a new piece of TJM equipment that didnt turn out to be as advertised. Warwick decided to use the competitors version to see what the outcome was. ONce it was placed under the tyres on both sides the Landcruiser basically jumped out of the sand.

Bear in mind that Warwick purposfully buried the Landcruiser down to the diffs.

Hope they weren't sandgrabba mats as they are floor mats which stop the sand mud and grit getting into the floor carpet.
I think the style used would work well but take up a fair bit of room. Easier to air down and up on the soft stuff. Compressors fit under the bonnet out of the way.

I have seen these in action on Fraser Island for the Toyota Fishing Classic saving tow vehicles that retrieve or launch 8 metre glass boats into the surf. They work extremely well, the secret to Maxtrax is no wheel spin. Wheelspin heats the plastic and destroys it.
Here is their site https://www.maxtrax.com.au/
They were designed by Brad McCarthy, the author of the Dirty Weekends books and guide books for Fraser & Moreton Islands

I got stuck in mud last year at Weipa.
Usual story, dry enough to walk on, front wheel cracked the surface, rear wheels down to axles.
This year it was sand, so a set of something is definately on my list.
MAXTRAX sound like the goods.

Sorry for the late reply guys. I have just returned from Mackay.

The equipment from TJM was a trial version of a new product that they were developing. They are not available on the market. We did a lot of product testing on this trip. Some products were brand new and not yet released (like the ones mentioned here) and some are already available (like MaxTrax).

We were very fortunate to have Ian Drapier on the trip with us. Ian is one of the fellas at TJM who actually designs and tests products before they are released on the market. He has some pretty good feedback to take back to the office.

Hi Geoff,
I haven't had a chance to even look at my fuel consumption or costs for the last trip. I do know that I blew the budget.

Nice to hear your fuel is dropping. I paid $2.40 when I was there.
For interests sake, on my trip to Mackay recently, I paid $1.28 for diesel.

You didnt plan on having the weight of the extra Poly either did you. It was only because the trailer failed.

Geoff,
The whole rig was very heavy. The trailer was pretty loaded, plus my car and two boats. My fuel consumption (gauged from filling up at the same stations) was only marginally better than Warwick and he had a V8.

Warwick's was pretty loaded too wasnt it? I didnt get to see what he had in those slide out trays in the back. You still did well if you had better fuel economy than him.
