Is it just me, cause i didn't get the pics.

Are you using photobucket Geoff?

I think when the pics get moved to sub-folders they get removed off here cause the link changes.

The airstrip at Coconut Island. It wouldnt take much for this to go under water.

Gee Geoff, it must be terrible to be you.
Having to live, work and play in such a place.
Really good pic's.

Do you need an assistant at the Info Centre?
I could make myself available for the gig.
How much per week would it cost me?

The position requires the person to work my days off either Friday,Saturday, Sunday or Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The centre will open up mid May and close end of October and open 7 days, 8am - 5pm.

The person would have to become knowledgable in the history and businesses in the area. They would have to also take do bookings and take tours through the centre.

Anything else goes through me and they will not have to worry about anything else.

Just ask Roger. He will tell you what he thought of it this year.

That would be right, work your days off and wouldnt be able to find out where your secret spots are.
Now I know when your days off are we can now follow you.

You better make sure that I dont know your following me Campdog. I might lead you out into some swamps and leave you there.

Geoff,
You are missing one very important piece of information. Campdog owns a Nissan. There is really no way that he would be able to follow you.

Hey Geoff,
I managed to open your pics this time round.
They are awesome aerial shots.

The plane wouldn't want to overshoot the runway on coconut island when its windy, it might end up being another artificial reef.

That island with the old church (forgot name already, probably same island) seems like a very tidy and populated little island.

maybe i'll take you up on that job offer. Work on weekends and go out fishing mid week with less crowds. I doubt if the misses will agree with me not seeing her on weekends............hhhmmmmmmm.............hang on...........it sounds like a great job.

just jokes.

It just must have been photobucket playing up or something.

The airstrip on Mabuiag Island is dangerous. Its similar to the one on Coconut Island but it is at the base of a hill and really short. Only a small amount of pilots are certified to land here. Quite a few have wound up in the drink as well. Right beside the airstrip is a pond that has a 14ft croc in it. The locals think its great to feed it. I have seen it several times when i have gone over the top in a chooper but have never managed to get a pic as it quickly dissapears under the water.

The island with the old stone church on it is Coconut. I would have to say it is one of the cleanest and most beauiful islands in the Torres Straits.

As for the job, have a think about it as i need someone reliable. As for the weekends, normally something can be arranged if days off are needed out side of these times.

Ha, fair enough. Some of the places i go though i travel by car, then by boat, then i walk in the rest of the way. Its one of the best ways to get some quality fishing done. Almost everyone sticks close to home around here. I always tend to travel to out of the way places.

I think thats what you have to do now days.I like the isolated places without anyone around. I think thats what I like about the cape.
We spent last weekend on the river without a person aroung and boy was it hard to pack up and go home.

Thats why i love heading down to the MacDonald River regularly. Its 100km from the nearest town. The nearest road access is at Vrilya Point which is about an hour north in the boat. It is very rare indeed to see people down that way. Other than the 2 motherships that go there occasionally. I am down there again end of next month for 8 days. Cant wait.

I did a search for Badu Island and found this thread. WOW, love the pics, someones gotta do it!!

Back to my original reason for this search

It seems most of the terrorists go to both Thursday and Horn Islands. I am keen to get off the beaten track so to speak and visit one or more of the smaller islands up that way. Overnight would be good, either camp or basic accom. Can anyone recommend anywhere/anything for sometime in August this year?

Glen

ps that short airstrip looks bloody scary!

Have reposted this question here http://capeyorkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11275#post11275 in the General Discussion area as there is more people likely to see it!
