Just got the mags this arvo Ant. They look great. I have had a quick flick through the 2007 edition and recognise and know a lot of the people in it including Garry and Sue, Doc Elliot. Same with the history.

I recognise Chris and Janine's faces. Perhaps i have met them before after all. For the life of me, i cant remember where.

In regards to the Quetta article, i had a lady in last year wanting to know as much as possible about it. I told her all the history of it including where some of the survivors were found. One of them was a 6 year old girl that had washed up on a rock and was stuck there several hours before being rescued. It turnes out that the lady i had in the Centre is related to that girl. The girl was her great grandmother.

Both mags should keep me going for a few days.

Cheers

Yeah, finally made it. I showed some friends that are staying with us and they are after some copies as well. I will be putting in another order today Ant.

Hopefully we should have a couple of new members shortly too as i have been promoting the forum this end to people that plan on returning to the area and want to find out the latest gossip and road conditions.

Sorry for the late reply all.
I have been tied up with finalising other projects such as the cookbook. Still working on closing a few more too.

Bottom line: The draw has taken place.
I will put up the names of each of the winners once they have all been contacted and have received their prizes.

The draw was late- my fault.

Hi Doc,
Yeah I am aiming at a March 09 release.
It is going to be a very busy few months as I am still working on the DVD project and finalising advertising and content for the Cape Yorker. Looks like the current economic climate has hit advertising pretty hard with some of the big boys like Toyota pulling out.
In amongst all of this chaos, I am relocating to Townsville by the 16th of March. Looks like more grey hairs on the way.

By the way, your DVD and picture disc will be in the mail on Wednesday the 7th of Jan.

Somewhere to stay on the way up this September :)
Hope you've got enough room in the backyard for a couple of tents.
Better yet, enough room in the house for swags.

Only one, I suggest I keep out of other peoples (potential) marital problems.

Another suggestion, get them to change the date.

Ouch. Cant you say it is work related and very important and if its not done this year it will have to wait another 12 months? If not, get her friend to change the wedding date. Easy. :D

Tell them to hold the ceremony and reception at our camp.

John

CampDog,
The magazine print has been delayed for a few reasons.
Firstly, I was without the internet (compliments of Telstra) for a month and we have also lost some pretty big advertisers with the economic climate. Two of these only pulled out a fortnight ago.
I cannot afford to put up another 27K to print this one if I am not sure whether the advertisers will pay on invoice.
I am going to hold off on print until I am more confident with the advertising market.

In the meantime, the website will be getting a lot more of my attention. Keep an eye on things in the next month........

A letter will be going out to all subscribers explaining the current situation and money will be refunded if people do not choose to wait for the fourth edition to print.

geoffjy
27-04-2009, 07:19 PM
Didnt realise it was that bad. Hope things pickup soon then. I am more than happy to wait Ant.

ant
27-04-2009, 07:48 PM
Thanks Geoff,
Everyone I have spoken to so far (including advertisers who are still booked) are more than happy to wait a little longer.

Guess that is a good thing for the mag.

In regards to advertising, some companies have completely cut their marketing budget until 2010.

If you ask me that is not a good idea as "A business without a sign is a sign of no business"

xina
27-04-2009, 08:05 PM
I'll wait as long as necessary for mine Ant.

I'll wait.
As they say, all good things are worth waiting for, whoever the hell they are.
Besides, gives me more time to re-re-read the other 3 editions.

Advertising problems!!

Yeah, right. I think the problem is that the editor is spending too much time fishing, drinking and generally having a good time.

Last I heard the economy was in great shape. Why just the other day I got an extra 900 bucks in me kicker. I'd use it to advertise in the mag, Ant, but I figure I'll save up another 100 bucks and buy a late model Nissan - surely those pieces of crap can't be worth any more than a 1000 bucks?!

Batesy is like a pack of cockroaches. No matter how hard you try to get rid of him, he keeps coming back. I tried to ban him but he somehow sneaks back in.
John you are right about the 'work' ethics of Batesy. His idea of 'working' is sitting in the yard under a tree and thinking of things to do. Meanwhile, his poor wife is in the house looking after the kids as they try to work out why Mummy does all the work and Daddy spends his time looking busy.
Batesy, you should be made to give that money back, better still send it in a cheque to Cape Yorker magazine!!!!!
Then take the other $100.00 and head on down to your local Nissan dealer. I hear they are keen for any sort of sale at the moment..........

I think I worked for a 12 month stint back in the late 90s...

It was with the DPI though, so it may as well be classed as a 12 month holiday!

I'm joking of course - not about the DPI - I have actually worked more than 12 months in my life ... be close to 18 easy!

Ooops, better go ... I think Oprah's just about to come on the tele.

As for you, Ant .... for your information, I don't sit out in the yard under a tree.
