This always seems to happen when I am away. Either it is some bodies sick way of letting me know that I am destined to sit in front of a screen all my life or just plain coincidence.

As most of you are aware, there has been a big run of spam over the last 48 hours and I appologise for the concerns it may have caused some of you.
I have gone through and banned and deleted each of the users responsible and am currently looking at ways of making sure this does not continue to happen again.
There were a total of 32 new users who were all logging in to fill our site with rubbish.

You will notice that the members list is no longer viewable-this is one of the steps I have taken.

Please let me know if you see anything strange in the future and also let me know if you do experience any trouble posting/viewing threads due to the changes I have made.

Thanks Geoff for the early warning and congrats as our newest Moderator.

Glad you're back Ant. They were making me nuts. How do they know when you're not there? Last time it happened you were away too.
Cheers,
xina.

Hi xina,
Thanks for the welcome back.
I think it is just coincidence that these idiots seem to hit the site when I am not here.
After the changes I made late last night, there doesn't seem to be any new activity so that is a move in the right direction.

Hi Ant,

I was wondering how disabling the members list would stop them? Isnt it just a matter of the spammers becoming new members?

Geoff,
The first part is stopping them joining up (which I have hopefully done), but once they are in the forum they can then use the members list to spam all the members as well. By making the members list unavailable, it makes it less attractive to hit our site. These guys and gals are after the easiest sites to get into with a lot of traffic. It is all about maximising their time and effort.

Yeah Highlift,
The spam this time was pretty graphic and inappropriate.
Good luck with the move and the new job. You should send us a few pics of the area and the trucks once you settle in.
talk again soon.

Just trying to get people to visit porn sites and buy viagra by the look of it.

Sounds like you will be having fun in W.A. Highlift. All the best mate. Make sure to send us plenty of pics of the area. Hopefully you will be near some good fishing spots as well.

Yeah I don't know how long I will be in W.A yet Fly in Fly out jobs and endless red rock as scenery don't really do it for me these days the last few years I have gotten to use to knockin off at the end of the day and going home to the missus and kids and kicking back everyone is telling me I will love it over there and won't want to come back we'll see what happens just looking at get a bit of experience up at the moment all my past work has been roadtrains so driving one of those huge dump trucks will be a real buzz then I will see about getting a job in the Hunter Valley or maybe QLD some where close to the Cape now wouldn't that be nice.

Always wanted to go over there and drive one of those things. First stumbling block was a husband, and when he was no longer a problem, now age and health are against me. Enjoy it while you can Highlift. I found out women could get jobs driving them, when a couple who had bought a block near us at Baffle Creek came to visit one day. I think she was making over $1,000 a week then. That was in the very early 90's. They were at Kununurra.
Enjoy your time over there Highlift.
Cheers,
xina.

Howdee all,

Normally when Ant's away, I've been around to delete the spammers.

This week I snuck up Campdog's way, and spent a nice week at South West Rocks. Trying to get up a few brownie points up in case I can sneak a Cape York trip in next year......

Good to see we have another moderator on board to help fight the spammers !!

Do we get spammers on here often? Other than the latest episode.

G'day Geoff,

They only seem to pop up when Ant goes away......

It happened twice in a row, so I suggested that he look at putting a few extra moderators on.

Hence I got promoted to the much sought after position of "Super Moderator" ! It comes with it's benefits...:D (access to the GPS satellite data of where Anthony has been fishing ;) )

Ah well, thats all right then. Could always use a few extra GPS co-ordinates for fishy spots. Whats the diference between Moderator and Super Moderator?

Geoff,
The difference is the word 'Super'.

Scorcher,
I thought I turned off the function that allowed you to view my GPS coordinates. Looks like I will have to alter them a little to throw you off course.

Give him one for the middle of a big saltpan somewhere that takes a couple of days 4WD'ing to get to.

Funny guys.....

Actually Geoff, I already know where that saltpan is !!

A mate of mine, and regular Cape York visitor, let's just call him "The Beast" to protect his identity :D (he's a regular lurker to this forum...) spent a couple of days stuck in a saltpan south of Pormpuraaw on a track near the Coleman River.

I think that it still gives him nightmares !
