View Full Version : Jacky Jacky Creek Mud Crabs
Ant I know your not going to give away your best (secret)fishing spots but i was wonder what the mud crabs are like around the Jacky Jacky creek area.
I'm looking at hiring a tinnie out of Seisia and heading to the boat ramp down past the airfield.
If I had a couple of crab pots would I have a good chance of getting 1 or 2.
Also do you need to set the pots over night or can ya get them through the day.

Geez, fellas, don't even mention Mud Crabs to Ant... he's dirty that no one is bringing them down to Cairns for him.
Ever since he had to move out of Weipa he's been living on meat and three veg ... pretty tough for a fisherman!
Closest he gets to the water is when he cleans the pool ... and even then he can't touch it because he thinks 27 degrees is too cold..!! In fact, he's the only bloke I know in Far North Queensland who has to wear a wetsuit in his own swimming pool. :)

It's not looking to good YoYo I havn't heard from Ant, And they reckon people are really helpfull up that way, I dun Know. He sound's like abit of a girl though, wetsuit in a swimming pool, far Norht Queensland, whats that about.
I think we have to find our own spots. Don't know about you but i'm on holidays for a month so i won't have time to find the good fishing spots.
I was told this website is full of helpfull info all i seem to do is ask questions and get told i'm an idiot for driving a Nissan. Oh well Good luck as i think you will need it as i don't think you are going to get much info from these moderators.
You never know if you cross your fingers and hope, they might let go of some knowledge that they may have. Least they can do since we are the only blokes on here.
You have a way with words Yo Yo.

I know your not a fisherman Batsey. Mate if i catch a few I will make sure to track you down through king chevy and give you a feed.
I was refering to the Moderator not the Administrator as I don't see him logging on these days. Probably to busy polishishing His cruiser wishing He bought a nissan instead, or even dreaming about what life would of been like if he did buy a JEEP.
Guys, I am extremely busy so please excuse the short reply.
Yes you will get muddies in the Jacky Jacky area. Best to really use a net to catch them as pots will either get robbed or smashed by crocs.
If you have to use pots, put them in on the rising tide and pull them up a few hours later. Place them near the mangroves, or right in amongst them if possible. Do not leave pots to go 'dry' and make sure that you do have them named properly for fisheries.
To go off on another angle. Don't just think that they live in the mangroves. You will actually find them out in the open (I am talking beaches here) usually near the mouths of creeks particularly on the bottom of the tides. I have seen them in large numbers south of Weipa walking in crystal clear waters-easy targets!
Hope this is of some help.
So you reckon a net. just your every day fishing net or something more like a chicken wire net so they can't cut it. And what lean out of the boat and just scoop them up. I bit more research is needed here i think.
Try to use a net that they won't get caught up in easily.
I usually use the net when walking, but have also used one in the boat-you just sneak along and then jump out of the boat and net them-great fun in bare foot.
I prefer to use a set of 'special crab tongs' they are like a giant pair of bbq tongs. You have to hang on tight though as the results are bad if they get free. They are strong bastards!!

You southerners can do this with Crocs too ... they're really tame on the west coast of the Cape!

Mmmmmm That was my next Question WHAT ABOUT THE CROCS S@#T.
I guess the next thing your going to tell me is that, Areoguard will keep them away or maybe A special mix of 50/50 parts Baby oil and Dettol. Just rub on your legs before you get in the water.
Hey why don't you guys bottel the stuff and send it out free with the mag. Chris and Ant's Croc Repellent sure to be a big hit with us Southerns.

Batesy's new brand of reptile repellent: 'Croc Bates'
Just smear it on and enjoy the great out-jaws. Made from organic incredients like beef, pig and kangaroo.
Money back guarentee if it doesn't work!!
