Well, another car gas done its dash on the Cape. 4 hours ago a 4wd drowned in the Jardine River at the telegraph crossing.

You guys will love this. They were 3 cars travelling in a group, a nissan, a troopy and a 80 series landcruiser. The troopy and the landy crossed first without a problem but when the nissan tried it, it got almost all the way across when they drowned it. And its one of the new model nissans too. Motor has water in it, the electrics are not working. The wife and kids are having a coffee here atm while Andy (RACQ Bamaga) brings it back on the back of the truck.

Now who would have thought a Nissan would fail like that hey? Obviously they did because the first thing they did before they left was to insure it.

What do you expect. It got stuck in the ruts from all the wheel spin from the Toyotas.
To be honest I wouldnt have a Patrol with one of those 4 cylinder on steroid motors.I love my old six cylinder oiler.
I would use the ferry, not worh the risk no matter what you are in. I could fing something better to do with fifty odd grand than risk drowning it in the river.

Your probably right Campdog. They should put the 4'bies into 4wd next time they cross or let the nissan go first.

I am not a believer in all those new 4WD's, whether they are nissan or toyota. I love the older models with no computers. A lot easier to work on. I wouldnt even go near the motor on some of these new ones.

I know it's the wrong thread guys, but I figured more people would read this one. I got what for me was exciting news on Monday. Two contributers to the Forum have seen "my" Quoll. Unfortunately, still no Photo, and no one seems too interested unless they see one, so please keep your eyes open.
Cheers,
xina.

Thanks Geoff, it really will be a big help when someone manages to get one. One lot I told about it this time,(not the exact location) even seemed to think I was after an Identification, and referred me to a site for the Striped Possum !!! Very frustrating.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
xina.

What area are we looking at xina where it was sighted? North of the Jardine? North of Weipa?

Hey Geoff,

I wonder what his insurance company will say??

I thought that they had done their best (local council) to stop people from bypassing the ferry? Do many people still try to cross the Jardine nowadays??

I'm with Campdog on this one. $88 to use the ferry is cheap insurance !

Well, they talked to their insurance company and they said they would cover it as well as any items that were lost in the car. I think they said they were with suncorp.

They have RACQ Ultracare membership, the highest level you can get. The thinig i found wierd is that they rang Andy (Bamaga RACQ) and he said that because they were stuck in a creek, he wouldnt touch them until they talked to their insurance company. Surely it wouldnt matter whether you were in a creek on dry ground?

Several yerars ago local council gound out about people crossing without using the ferry and they took an escavator out there and dug out the northern side of the telegraph crossing so there is a reasonably deep hole there now. That has put a lot of people off crossing the jardine these days but occasionaly you still get someone that wants to give it a go.

I know from experience that its easier to work on the old gear.
I suppose anyone silly enough to follow a couple of toyotas into the river deserve to get stuck.
Theres a fine line between fun and stupitity. when I plan a trip I dont allow anything in the budget for stupitity. Its a long way home if something goes pearshape.
I hope my old Patrol makes it to the top again.

I know exactly what you mean Campdog. If at all possible i try to avoid deep crossings. I have better things to do with my money than to repair my 4WD.
