I had a tourist that had travelled up on a tour bus in the centre today. He had taken a pic of a spotted cus cus on the Punsand Road. I might be blind or something but i have been up here for more than 18 years now and have not seen one up here before.
Has anyone else seen one up this way before?
Yeah, they're most commonly found in the Scrub itself, however they can also be seen in that scrubby stuff around Punsand and Cable. I have only ever seen one.

gday geoff,
when ant and crew were here the other week, norm was out the back at the swamp behind my place looking for palmys, and spotted a cus cus out the back at 6.30am. don't know if it was a spotty, and i only saw the pic.
like dan said, i have seen a couple behind punsand a few times also,
and a few sugar glider looking critters also.
Gday Dan, hows things? would that be what they are dan?? look like it but hey, i'm a simple fisherman!!
cheers
Spot on yetti,
I remember these 'critters' from my days in PNG.
Kinda made me feel bad that I didn't get up early on the day and go for that walk with Norm. Oh well.
Hi Bat,
They sure are. Females are a dull grey, whereas the males get the orange tinge and white spotted fur. Like you said you also get Sugar Gliders and the usual brush and ringtail possums. I'm not sure if it occurs around Lockerbie, but something to look out for is the black and white striped possum.

The one i saw in the pic was a female then. I have seen a lot of sugar gliders and brush tail possums at Lockerbie when i was living there and also out at Pajinka when the resort was still operating.
When i was out at Pajinka a sugar glider used to harass our dog.

Hey guys,
Norm here, still trying to get my head around work after a couple of weeks in the Cape. Still wrapped in my piccies of cuscus and palm cockies from the trip.
Bat, they were running around wild out the back of your place, at least that's what I tell everyone!!
Norm
Will post pic when I figure out how to do that!

G'DAy Normie, Welcome to the forum.
Its always a pain getting back from a holiday and finding all the work waiting for you isnt it.
To find out how to post pics refer to the "LATEST NEWS" part and look for Ant's thread 'How to attach images through the forum'.

Piccy of Spotted Cuscus (the newly discovered Batii variety) also a Palmy i saw on the Wenlock.
Count myself lucky, Bat lives in the Cape for 10+ years and sees a couple, geoff lives there for 18 and never sees any, i get lucky on day 2, also palm cockies had a nest 50yards from our camp on the banks of the wenlock.

I still haven't seen one Geoff but while at work a couple of months back Jan was relaxing in our camp at Loyalty Beach when a Cuscus climbed down one tree walked along the ground to another tree and climbed back up again. All this not 15m away, in broad daylight, in a commercial campground. Amazing what you see when you go camping for months on end aye. Jan got a pic on her phone. Bit grainy but I'll show you some time.
Hey Norm welcome. Hows the lychees?
Cheers

Ah. Yes. Of Course. Sorry Norm. Thanks for correcting my befuddled top of Cape York brain. G'day to you - now I know it's you and not Gary who I thought was you.
Cheers
Rog
