We are heading to the cape in Sept and I am interested in reports of fuel prices throughout the cape. We are running petrol and diesel vehicles. Our route is Cairns, Bloomfield, Lakefield, Weipa, OTT, Seisia, Vrylia Pt, Chilli Beach, Moreton Telegraph, Musgrave, Chillagoe, Undarra, Hughenden, Longreach.
Any reports appreciated.

Welcome Geoff,
Have a squiz at my thread in General Discussion "June 2008 fuel prices..."
City prices have only slightly gone up since then, so I would suggest that they wouldn't be far off the mark up in the Cape currently.

Spoke to a fella just back from Julia Creek last night after 3 weeks of pigging and barra fishing he was telling me he was paying around $2.08 - $2.12 a litre for Diesel up that way so you would be looking at those figures or more at the moment.

Thanks for you reply. I have seen your post. Just thought with all the traffic up there at the moment there might be a bit more detailed info.

Thanks for the update geoffjy.
We'll be heading up there at the end of next week, handy to know what's ahead.
For the trip this year, Bris to Bris, I've budgetted for an average of $2:10/ltr, be interesting to see what it ends up being.

Interesting to see ULP prices jumping over Diesel prices. It's been a long time since I saw that.
Must be something to do with demand up your way Geoffjy??

No, not really. There is a reason why it has gone up but i wont mention it on here. It is not because of the cost of freight or the price of a barrel of oil. Bamaga prices are still the same as before though.

It did a week or so ago, and I haven't heard anything to the contrary since.
Fuel prices have actually dropped a good 10-15 cpl in Sydney in the past 2-3 months.
Looks like I may not have to mortgage the house to visit Cape York again.... (might just have to sell off 1 of the kids :)

I know the price of fuel up here has definitely affected me. When i go out now i prefer to take one or 2 friends with me to divy up the fuel costs. Only thing is though i am a bit more restricted as to where i go now. Certain spots i dont want people knowing about.

Tell me about it mate. I used to have an account with H but Seisia was a lot cheaper so i got an account there instead. Maybe i should have an account at both places then i can use the cheaper one hey.
When you talk to H, ask him why the price has risen at Seisia. He's not very happy about it.

What are you blokes complaining about, you live in the best part of australia. You sound like wingeing Toyota drivers.
If I want to go fishing on the Cape It costs me $2500 in fuel for the trip plus a month off work. There has to be a downside to living in paradise.

We complain about the fuel prices because it means we have to work more to pay for fuel. You would have a similar problem Campdog having a Nissan thats not very fuel economical. But thats understandable as its a Nissan.
