my partner has been told by work that the only time she can have two or more weeks off is 26 sep onwards. is this too late?

what would be the negatives in leaving this late?

Tractor,
No negatives. September is a great time to be up there. 'Winter' is over and things start to come back to life again, particularly the fishing. My top time to be in the Cape is from sept/oct through to the wet.

Only real negatives are the possibilities of fires (smoke in the air) and the temps start to get warm again (I love the heat). The roads also tend to be a little rougher but that is all a small price to pay.

Hope this helps........

Having never been to the Cape yet myself though going shortly, hopefully? I have always been told by my Uncle who goes every year that Sept is the best time as previously mention by Ant but he also said that it is generally less windy and make places like Bathurst Bay and Chilli Beach far more pleasurable. Just another thought?

I love September as a month to be up there and prefer that time of the year for the fishing.:-D
If you are looking at the end of September to the October, try to go after the school holidays and you will have the place to yourself - everywhere.
People get too worked up about the heat for no reason. The humidity will be building towards the end of October but definately will not be unbearable.
Last time I was up near Arnhem land was at that time and I still needed a blanket to sleep. We sat very close to the fire at night because we did not have a coat, although it might have been a one off.

Hi guys.

I have been watching the forum for some time now and have gained a lot in information for our trip. We a heading off from Brissy on Sept 6 for a 4 week trip to the cape via Wiepa and return through Undarra, dinosaur country and Longreach. I'm happy to hear about the weather. We are heading to Chilli Beach, Variliya Pt etc. and hope it will be less windy. We might cath up with a few at the cape.

From the Lynd to Hughenden will be the worst bitumen road you will ever see. It will make the corrugations on the Cape look good.
Yep it is bitumen with corrugations!!!
