Hi,

We are in Wiepa at the moment and looking to go out to Chilli Beach. We have heard some very mixed reports about Frenchman's. Has anyone been along there yet this year or have any other info on it??

Thanks
Ange

Hi,

just wanted to let you know that we drove the Frenchman's Track yesterday and it was fine. Pascoe river crossing was good. Some deep ruts along the road, but no other obstacles.

Had heard from Cooktown Council that the track was closed indefinitely. Happy that we had a go.

Thats good to hear, we will be giving it a go as part off our trip north - most likely mid Aug yippee only 28 sleeps to go!

I could have given you an update but i have been out myself for the last week or so. It's a lot nicer going that way instead of the main drag in.
Did you camp anywhere along there or come straight through to Iron Range National park? Did you come through eastbound or westbound? Only wondering cause westbound can be quite tricky sometimes climbing out of the Pascoe river especially if someones wet the track up before you. Did you notice all the scrape marks on the big boulder in the middle of the Pascoe river crossing where people have got hung up.
Sorry about all the questions.

I had an encounter on the Pascoe a few years ago, got hung up on the northern bank but managed to get out of bother on my own. I would love to spend more time in that area.
