Hi Tractor,
My 4wd club was planning a trip to Fraser in october but they are thinking about canceling it as they have heard that it's no good. They said you only have a very small time frame to get up and down the beach. Any accurate info would be appreciated.

We got home today too.

Only Casualty was 1 tyre on the bloomfield Tk & 2 shocks on Dads c'van on the main road to Weipa.

Nolans was the "tricky" crossing, actually it was the only crossing we needed any prior prep before doing. Ill upload some pics tomorrow.

I found Gunshot a bit of a dissapointment with the new northern approach but you can still see where the mad buggers use to cross.
Whilst we were there the dozer was cleaning up many of the bad entrances as well.
Owing to the delays (2 weeks) the watr was very low but Nolans tricked us into taking the easy entrance and bogging down in the soft bottom on the southern end which needed a whinch out.
The ECU got drowned and I spent two hours blowing out the water with a bed inflator which worked and the computor is still functioning well.
I will do piccies as soon as I can work out how to do them:eek:

ddr
18-09-2008, 12:49 PM
So out of the 2 Nolans entrances did you take? We took the one on the left or straight through heading north.

It sure was soft.
This is Me standing in the deepest part of Nolans.
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb165/trackie389/Cape/Nolans.jpg

Im 6'5" & it was up to my nuts, so deep, but what was surprising was the sand at the bottom was really soft.

The prep we did for nolans was lower tyre pressures (Down to 32) & put on a blind, then it was easy in the water & foot down fairly hard.

The most disapointing thing about our trip was the things we missed because of the wind & poor road reports.
The Wind stopped us from camping at Cpt Billys & Chilli Beach (Therefor missing Frenchmans) so that was sad, & also we missed the top part of Lakefield due to a wrong road report (We came in the bottom). We also missed doing Battle Camp which we would have been ok with, but again road reports that we took we should have found out for ourselves.

Few more pics

Hey Lushy, all you and Lindsay needed was a tow from a Postie bike rider to get you guys out of the shit, hope the rest off the trip after we left you was uneventful. I have some pics of the drowned Surf if you need em!
Oh, and a classic pic of the Postie Bike wheelstanding out of Gunshot.

The seized first bike arrived back in Brisvegas this morning, what a sad sight it is.

PS we gave the Troopy back to it's rightful owners. hehe!

Hi mate - yes we did get back home without anymore major issues just a exhaust fix. Even the putor is still keeping the car sweet.
From what I remember you towed a Nissan out of nolans?;) would love a pic of that.
The drowning was a classic - the easy entry was our fate, glad it was not me driving his car, he still is pissed about it - the car is fully stripped in his back yard (not Pretty) LOL.
You guys rock by the way - a very good thing you did for us.
So you stuffed another posty shit mate you guys have arses of steel.
For some fate you guys where our guardian angels - not pretty ones but you were there at our need.
F"ing wind was a bugger - we slept under the cover of the shed at Capt Billies Landind and I was attacked by a 14 foot Bush Turkey - honest LoL bugger got my r little finger at about 2 am and woke me with a peck to be fed at 6 am, gave me a start early in the morning I tell you!

Yep, got the Postie Bike towing the Nissan pic as well, there is some crackers amongst them. How could we even consider leaving you guys stranded after donating the vital engine oil to help the Mail get through! 150km round trip was fun anyway.

And driving that Troopy was an experience in itself, after fitting new tie rod ends to replace the fencing wire holding the old ones together. Wheel alignment by eye worked a treat. Don't need any fancy cars to do the job.

Thanks go to Mark from Top End Motors at Seisia for his help and many cold beers, he's a top bloke.

The big esky full of cold beer we purchased helped heaps when we found you had left Nolans under your own steam only hours earlier. Shit happens!

Might do it all again next year but in my own old Troopy.

I bet nowhere near the amount of people will come and have a chat with us. Motorbikes attract young and old alike. Even 80 year old Hilary in a tour bus at the Croc Tent told me she rode a bike across the Nullabor in her early days, thought I had picked up a real bikey chick there. She was a good sport!

We met some fantastic people

Did our thing at the MotoGP - well done to Stoner leading the race from start to finish. I reckon this thread is finished and sets us free for others to use the forum, happy to give advice (good and bad lol):p
