Hi all,

Great forum you have going here guys, and Ant, I am going to order your latest Cape Yorker just as soon as I know my Weipa address when I get up there in 3 weeks.

I've fished the north-west of WA (Kimberley, Pilbara) and Kakadu for barra a few years back when I lived in the Pilbara, but am a bit rusty of late, as the Brissy land-based options are fairly limited in comparison!

I am looking to get a ~4m boat (~$6K) either in Weipa (heard the boat market there is ok - is this true?) or back in Brissie when I'm down for a few weeks at Xmas.

Loved reading about your Weipa secrets Ant - cheers! I have just been to the local tackle shop for a few of your recommended lures and have checked your spots with google earth!

What is the price of tackle (lures, line, rods, etc) like in Weipa? Am I going to save significant amounts buying in Brissie, or will it be comparable? I'd like to support the local guy if the prices aren;t too steep!

Cheers - can't wait to throw a line in up there!
Mick

Welcome Dizne,
You don't need to wait 3 weeks for the Mag. Any good newsagent will have it. You can't miss it. It has a bright Orange cover this time. A Cape York sunrise. Enjoy,
xina

Awesome - thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye out for it and grad it asap! :D

I'll try to spare it for reading on the plane trip up there.

Cheers,
Mick

Boats outside of Weipa are generally a little cheaper but you then have to get them freighted into the area. Depending on the time of year, it is sometimes better to buy in Weipa- there is less choice though.

Prices at both outlets in Weipa (Weipa bait and tackle and Weipa 4wd and camping are very comparable to Bris prices so it is good to support the local guys. You may not always get the variety like you would get in Bris but then again, the tackle supplied up in Weipa is the right sort of gear for the area.

Thanks Ant ... I will look in to the boat market when I'm up there and will buy the rest of the tackle/rods that I need at present up in Weipa.

So much to do before the move ... so little time!

Can't wait to be flicking lures up there! :D

Cheers for the info,
Mick

Hi Dizne,
I'll bet you have trouble saving it 'till you get on the plane.
Cheers,
