Hi All,
I am curious as too how long you are permitted to camp at one of the Injinoo sites covered by the barge / camping permit issued when crossing the Jardine. I have searched the Injinoo website but I cannot find any time frame quoted. I am kind of keen spending a couple of weeks at each (time is on our side) and was wondering if this was possible.
Anybody know the answer to tis one?

The fee for crossing the Jardine is also your permit to camp in a few areas North of the River and also at Virilya Point on the Southern side. I dont think there is a time frame on each spot. Ron and Viv Moons 4wd adventure names all the spots and acess to them. To name a few we have camped at Muttee Heads, but you can camp at summerset and a few beach camping spots on the east coast ,south of Summerset. Also on the mouth of the Jardine River near Muttee Heads.I enjoy a night ot two at one of the resorts./ camping grounds and make use of the time to rest up and get civilised for a few days.
Camping on the banks of the Jardine /northern side near the linesmans hut is one of my fovorites.I have been told of a 5m resident saltie.

Cheiffy,
Welcome to the forum,
2 Weeks at Injinoo won't be a problem. You'll probably want to check another part of the many coastlines and campsites after that anyway. Make sure you head over to the fishing club on friday nights for a local band, meal and a couple of cool ales. It's a great social spot and good place to get some local info.

I asked in 03 that same question and queried how the locals get by. The response I got was that the permit allowed camping and barge crossings until the barge was pulled out at the end of the season in time for the wet. - that is multiple crossings with the same receipt!!!!
Might have changed since then, but I doubt it.

And the good thing is, that, other than the increase in price, due to the introduction of the GST, the barge price has not changed for many years.
Still $88 per car, and an extra $11 if towing a trailer.
Pity the same could not be said for fuel prices..................
The most I paid for fuel while I was up there was $2.38 at Bramwell Junction.

I made a note of the prices at each location. I'll post that shortly, which may help some traverlers in planning they're future trips.
Yes, $2.38 was the top price in The Cape last week (not including the outlying settlements of Lockart River, Aurukun etc) that we came across.

There is no time limit to how long you can stay after you have paid your fee to cross the ferry. The ferry is open 7 days a week, 8am - 5pm up until Late December. After that they are only open Mondays, Wednesday's and Friday's right up until April.
Here is an interesting bit of info. Injinoo community is claiming that they dont make much of a profit from the ferry. I find that really hard to believe unless some of it is not being reported.
