For anybody out there planning your first trip to Cape York (or even for the seasoned travellers), part of the enjoyment is the research beforehand.
To help, here are a few of my favourite books on Cape York, which I have used over the years, which will give you an enormous amount of information on where to go, what to see, and how to get there. Couple it up with a Hema Cape York map, and start exploring.
1) Cape York - An Adventurers Guide (Ron & Viv Moon).
This is regarded as the bible for anybody trekking up to the Cape.
2) A 4WD Experience -Lynn & Yvonne Fraser
Good source of information on the Cape
3) The Great Top Road - Lynn & Yvonne Fraser
This one covers the bottom part of the Cape, and the Gulf country
4) Australia's Cape York Peninsula - Clifford & Dawn Frith
A good reference book about the landscape of Cape York, and the wildlife that inhabits it.
5) Fishing The Cape - by Cliff Hansen
I'm not sure whether this one has been revised or not. My copy is a 1989 edition, and has some good information about Fish species (including identification of many), and tackle. Much of the restrictions are most likely outdated, but a good reference book nevertheless.
Has anybody else out there got any other favourites??
Happy travelling.
