The subject of bouncing rocks sounds familiar, not sure if it had been discussed here before or not.

One of the blokes at work reckons he had been to a place on the Cape years ago where there were all these rocks that bounced like balls when thrown at another rock, anyone know of this?
He thinks it was just North of Cooktown, though couldn't be sure.
It's possible the locals have restricted access and renamed the area since he was last there.

Just curious, said I would post to see if anyone knew it.

Possibly Cape Melville.

I have not been there, however there are many granite hills. Still sounds unlikely though...

Hi Guys,
Just Googled "Bouncing Rocks", and got a site (among others) for www.ExplorOz.com . Their forum site prints out to three pages on the rocks.
There are a few different sites where they are found apparrently.

Nedly,

There's a place just near Cape Tribulation (from memory) .

Google "Bouncing Stones", and you will find a variety of references to it.

We visited the spot a couple of times in the late 80's & early 90's. It is just off the side of the road on the shore line.

The rocks were "bouncy" from my recollections, but then again, most rocks bounce if you throw them against something else

Sounds like you are describing the mouth of Emegen (spelling) Creek. We had a look there last year, and yes, the rocks were bouncy.
It's possible this is the place he was thinking of.

Thanks xina,
I never think to do a search on Google, don't know why.
To most it would be the obvious place to start a seach.

I checked the ExplorOz site, this certainly sounds like the place he described, access is has certainly been restricted, and apparently all signage removed.
Might have to check it out while we're up there this year.

You're welcome Nedly,
I do have an article on them a friend sent me years ago, but it was quicker to Google. Don't know how long it would take me to find it.
