View Full Version : Oh what a feeling!!!!
It has finally happened. After a huge amount of pressure from forum members such as Campdog, I have talked with the head people at Toyota Australia and am now proud to welcome them on board to the forum (and main Cape Yorker site too). Their presence has been long awaited and I am sure I speak for all members when I sincerely say "Welcome aboard Toyota- Oh what a feeling"
Ps: Campdog when is that photo shoot with the two-piece??

Hi Scorcher,
If only half of what you have said were true! Unfortunately, there are no big deals afoot and no money or goods have exchanged hands. At the end of the day, Toyota (in my opinion) make a great vehicle and I want to make sure that businesses (like Cape Yorker) support them for what they are. I take on quite a different perspective to most businesses with the Cape Yorker as I am not in it for financial reasons (if that were true we would have folded long ago). The mag is here to support and promote both cape businesses, what to see and do on the cape and of course, the products and brands that actually work on the cape.
I will not advertise/support a product/business that is not up to scratch for the cape. My credibility and that of the publication is worth more than that.
Sorry for the big spiel but I really get annoyed when I see publications/businesses advocating for something purely for the dollar value to them. That is a disservice to the readers and the general public.

Hey Ant,
I obviously didn't put enough winks & smiles in my reply :) :)
I agree that too many publications are predominantly about advertising nowadays, with the actual content of secondary importance.
I've had (from memory) 5 Toyota Landcruisers out of my last 6 4x4's since 1989. All have been to The Cape for at least 1 trip, and I've never had a problem with spares or repairs. With the profusion of Toyota's in and around The Cape (many sitting idle in front & back yards), there's never a shortage of spares.
The one year I downgraded to a Jackaroo (old model), was a nightmare. Blew a diff helping drag a truck out of a creek (a story for another day), and spent several unplanned days in Weipa while chasing all around Australia to firstly find a replacement, then get it flown in (at the very expensive Kg air freight costs).
I suppose that if the gas pipeline ever goes in, along with the concrete highway all the way to the top, businesses will only have to stock spares to suit the family sedan's !
p.s. If I'm still in the good books, I would happily put a Toyota sticker next to my incoming Cape Yorker sticker on the Kimberley Kamper :)

HI Scorcher,
Mate you are still in the 'good books'. I know that the comment was harmless but felt that I should justify myself before others may get the wrong idea.

I knew that !!
Just thought that it would be a good idea to get it out into the open too, before those "Patrol Owners" started to cry (sorry Campdog).
I just noticed that Engel is now on the front page also.
If they are looking for a Chestcold & Trailblazer owner to "test drive" their latest products, feel free to pass on my contact details ! :)
I'm very cheap !

The main site has a 'rotating' bank of ads of which Engel is part of. IN short, there is a folder with all the ads in it and each time you open a page on the site, it will randomly pick the ads from the folder. Basically every time you view a page, there will be a different set of ads displayed.
This will be updated pretty regularly as more ads come on board.
The forum will stay as it is. Hopefully by the end of today (April 11), we should also have TJM on board and that is it for the forum.
Speaking of Engel, have you checked out their brand new range of fridges? The Engel Eclipse are made from a polypropolene material. I will be trying to get Peter from Engel to bring one up with him to the cape later this year so we can do some product testing with it.

Sounds good Ant,
I must say that some of the other forums (fishing, touring, music etc) have been spoiled by the amount of advertising they put their web sites. Mainly the "pop-up" stuff that jumps over the top of what you are reading, which you then have to manually close. Having static brand names across the top of each page is something most of us are happy to deal with.
If Pete from Engel is from down Sydney way, I'd be happy to save him the fuel for a trip to the cape by doing some product testing for him !!
Surely that's the least I could do ! (What a great guy).
Now you've got me thinking what I could do for TJM ?? Do they need any side steps, roof racks, suspension test driven?? Maybe some rear wheel carriers ??
All we need now is a reputable tyre manufacturer to come on board, and a fuel distributor who would like us (me) to test 2000 lt of their latest deisel fuel out??
The opportunities are endless (especially when you have low moral values like mine) !!
Keep up the good work Ant !!

I remember back when I was in charge around here ... Cape Yorker was all class back then. No blatant advertising, no rotating banner ads, bugger all forum members ... and unfortunately, absolutely no bloody money in the bank!! :)
I look back on those days fondly ... and thank the sweet lord that those days are all in the friggin' past! :)
Hope the advertising goes well, Ant.
The missus says I can get in line to buy a 200 series cruiser ... when they fall into the $10,000 price bracket.

Am I on the right forum here?
Lots of 'Rods and Tackle' talk ... getting semi-nude talk ... free sex talk.
Kinda makes me want to touch myself ... against a cold can of rum and drink some sense into this world! :)
I guess what everyone said was right: 'Plenty of crazies in the Cape' ... maybe they should add: '...and plenty more crazies on any Cape related internet forums'.
Cape Yorker ... Cape Talker ... now it's heading for Cape Porker!
Who's running this asylum?!

You gotta admit Ant,
The "just touching" hands, and "dreamy eye to eye" contact is really a work of art! Are you by chance taking up "gondoliering" with those fancy duds?
