On me way to Chili beach the wheel nuts rattled off and i lost me wheel right at a causeway crossing
Although it doesn't seem so bad in this pic.......my wheel arch has broke and folded right around the hub. Luckily i had a lump hammer to belt it out straight, i thought i did a good job. Meanwhile my wife walked a couple of kays back along the road to find some wheelnuts. Surprisingly she found some and i borrowed a couple off the other wheel to get us going.
And then........

I dropped me boat in the water at the beach and parked the car just to find when i got back to the boat i had forgotten to put the bungs in. Half of the chili Beach sand had sucked through the holes and me boat had almost become a new artificial reef. Me trailer winch was under extreme pressure trying to lift the boat back on to the trailer to drain it.

By now i was wondering what else could go wrong and was hesitant to continue fishing.
I convinced myself it could only get better, i ended up catching some good size fingermark but i lost my favorite lure to a big Barra in the snags up a nearby creek.

A bad days fishing is better than a goog day at work anytime, especially in your back yard.
Stacky if I may ask, what took you to Lockhart River and what do you do for work.

My Wife is the main bread earner, she teaches here.
I also work at the school and sometimes the local store or wherever else may give me a few hours.
There isn't a great deal of work in town unless you come in on contract jobs,
if there is a job going it is offered to the local indigenous first of course.
In my spare time i keep the maintenance up to the house, 2 unreliable boats, troopy and my fishing gear, Everyweekend is booked out to my wife and i for recreational activities.
It's a simple lifestyle with minimal pressures and great living.
It can be tough though..........sometimes you just wanna come home and have a beer or bourbon and all you have is water, cordial or soft drink cause of AMP....beleive it or not, we are happy with these huge sacrifices we make......

what took us to Lockhart River?
We lived on the sunny coast and frequented DI beach every 2nd weekend and spent 2wks on Fraser every year (mostly spent at Waddy point or further north).
Camping, fishing, bushwalking, 4wdriving and getting away from mainstream life is something we have always done.
Like most of the people on this website, we wanted to experience Cape York and i had never caught a Barra. We couldn't think of a better way then to live and work up here.
It took us 2yrs to finally get an offer, so we snatched it up.
We moved in January 07 and have never looked back. We miss our family and good freinds though.
It's expensive for them to come and visit cause a flight is $450 each way from Cairns and you can't get here by boat.

Sorry about raving on.........at the moment it's dumping rain and it's to dodgy to go fishing

Thanks for info on your life on the Cape, sounds like a great lifestyle. Good to see your enjoying it and getting time to do the good things in life.

Mate, sounds like an awesome lifestyle.
The wife and I have also decide to escape the rat race and hit the road. Unlike yourself, we will be doing the lap of Oz but without a time frame. Just take it has it comes and work when necessary. Another visit to the Cape is our first planned destination.

Cheers

Cheiffy,
Good luck with your trip around OZ.
If things weren't so great here, that would be my plan B.
