View Full Version : Cape Yorker Tag-A-Long, 2009
Okay, a few people have been throwing the idea around so I figured it was best to start a separate thread on this.
At this stage, April looks like the month for it all to begin.
If you are interested (this is not a definite yet!), put down your available dates and where you would REALLY like to go.
Once things get closer, we will look at the dates and places a little more.
Here is my two cents worth.
best time: (really anytime for me......but......) either first two weeks in April or first two weeks in May.
As for where to go, I really don't care as long as it is in the cape. Would love to spend more time in Bamaga/Seisia but anywhere up there is good.
Also love to do some fishing with the forum members while away too.We may even visit some of my 'secret' places..........

Will run it by the Boss, If I cant go this year I will look at 2009. No fixed time for us.Will need a couple of extra weeks for travel to Cairns and home. Secret spots sound great.

I would be a candidate for the month of May.
Up to Easter is out for me as its our busiest time of the year.
Week commencing the 20th April we would be setting off from Brisbane. We would most likely take 6 weeks off for this trip. Thats if we dont actually make it to the cape in August '08 as planned. The final 2 weeks of the 6 would be spent by ourselves travelling between cairns and home. :)

CampDog- This is for 2009.
Ant, you have lost me ! What I meant was that if i dont get there this year on a campdog beer wine & fishing trip, I will be in on the Capeyorker Trip next year
As part of our round Australia trip in '09 we are planning to be in Cairns end of April/start of May in order to tackle Cape York when the tracks are opened.
As we are travelling solo we certainly hope to hook up with a few other vehicles.
When do the tracks normally open? It obviously varies each year dependant on when the wet finishes but what date can be used as a general rule?
Damo,
'Unofficially' Easter is when you can generally start heading up. I say unofficially as the wet can sometimes go a little longer as it looks to be at present. As a 'safe' bet, late April/early May should be good to start with.
Generally also at this time of the year, the roads can be a little debatable as the road crews haven't had a lot of time to get in and do any repairs that may be needed, but that is part of the fun.
