Nice camper,
Be good to see some more shots of it from different angles, etc.
If you don't mind posting it- what sort of dollars did you fork out?

lookin good mate.....now just a few thing to check before you hit the road.
crawl underneath and see if its a one piece axel/hub....if its not have a look
where the hubs are welded onto the axel and make sure the weld are on all four sides, if yes, all good, if not get it welded up....its a weak point.
also before you light up the stove/bbq make sure the gas hose/fitting are all done up tight....ive seen a brand new one blow up......
cheers
Wayno- great advice. It's comments such as yours that make this forum a wealth of info. I wonder how many people set out on the road and don't check things such as gas lines once they reach their destination. The roads up this way can be quite rough and corrugated at times and it wouldn't take much to loosen things up. A couple minutes checking things over can make a big difference.

Theres nothing like preparation and carrying a few spares. With a new trailer your likelyhood of busting your trailer are slim if you prepare well. Electric Brakes seem to be a victim of rough roads, as well as shockies. A daily check of nuts and bolts will help find things before they break. I normally get under my 4b and trailer of a night with a torch as it is easier to spot a shiny patch from loose bolts and oil leaks etc.(except when im stuck in a creek)Tyre pressure plays a big part on dampening the cape corrugations. I normally let my tyres down as soon as I hit the dirt and reduce speed and enjoy the ride.

Nice looking camper.
Are they 16" Navara rims? Looks the same as whats on my CT.
What tyres are they? Looking nice and chunky, well done.
:D

Not always a good idea. Reducing tyre pressure can put extra strain on the sidewalls of your tyres. Tyres are made to run at a certain pressure range (except for sand work when needed) and reducing the pressure outside of that range can cause excessive wear or lead to tyre problems.
Not wanting to get into a tyre debate here but these facts were stressed to me by a tyre company by a guy who has been in the business his whole life- I tend to listen to people like that. The article I did in the 2007 edition of this mag outlines all of this in a little more detail.
Of course, I am referring generally to 'proper' 4wd's and not the 'other' ones too Campdog.

Ant, You may be correct in what you think, But if you should have read what I said- reduce tyres pressure and Reduce speed .
As soon as I hit dirt road or corrugations on unfamiliar roads and tracks I reduce my all round pressure to about 28psi,this not only gives me a softer ride over the bad stuff but also gives me better traction if the road becomes worse without notice.A tyre will build up heat pressure long runs on corrugations and dirt roads and increase the chance of a blowout if travelling at speed.
I use this system and it works for me and a lot of other people and I havent worn a tyre out on a trip yet. But then again I have a proper 4wd.
Just thought a little feedback would be nice.

Tolinja- top set up. I like the fact that the floor is raised off the ground a little- very handy.
Can't wait to see it up here with a generous smattering of red dust all over it.
Campdog: Sorry I didn't read the rest of the post properly. I take your point. It just gets me worried when the general four wheel driver lowers pressure without knowing what may happen and also without knowing how to drive with lower pressures. I rekon the majority of tyre failure is due to either incorrect pressures or to overloading.

No problem, I see where you are coming from. When Im travelling on dirt Im not in a hurry so speed is not a factor to me. Heat build up is also a problem with under inflated tyres and speed. There is a formula for working out a safe pressure to use on different road conditions. Ill see if I can find it.

Campdog- I have an article on camp trailers to go into the 2008 edition- are you keen for me to run some of these shots with the article?
Also- any other Croc Crew members with shots of their campers (such as Tonlinja) please send them direct to my email (a brief description with each shot would be great).
email is: editor@capeyorker.com
The purpose of the article is to look at the different type of campers and what they offer and also to highlight some aspect that are 'not negotiable/must haves' with off road campers. Keen to hear from you all on your ideas- just shoot me an email.

I just threw the suspension in for good measure. That happened on the way up.The trailer broke in half on the way back down at Marpoon. Just shows what happens if your tow vehicle has too much power and off road ability. Tore the trailer in half under power.

Tony,
That timeframe should be fine as long as I can get the images and some text (brief description of the trailer, etc) as soon after the trip as possible.

Campdog- I don't have the disc. Would love to see the pics and story- are you able to send it direct to me?
Po Box 349, Smithfield, 4878.
Otherwise email is also fine providing the images are not too large- I can take emails up to 10MB without any hassles.

C'mon Campdog, be honest. No matter where you lived, you would be kept at home working in the yard (or something like that) dreaming of getting to the cape. Do the words 'kept man' mean anything?

I think your your right Ant. But living in Cairns would make the trip a lot more affordable. That 2300ks to Cairns Hurts.
Have to keep dreaming Ant,looking at photos last nigt was bad enough.I promise I will be back there soon.I have to finish the gardens one day,
