Found this little gem on the ABC NEws website today.
As if snakes, croc's & spiders weren't enough.

Rat eating plant discovered in Cape York

A rare new species of plant that eats small rats has been discovered at the tip of Cape York.
Pitch plants, otherwise known as flesh-eating plants, grow throughout Cape York but now a new, larger species that grows like a vine has been discovered.
The new species has been called "Tenax".
James Cook University ecologist Charles Clarke and a colleague found the new species at a swamp near the Jardine River, but exactly where is a secret.

Hi Nedly,

I know the plants you talk about. Its just a larger version of the pitcher plants that you see through the telagraph track. The plants you speak of were found in the swamp on the southern side of Jardine River.

They are keeping the exact location secret to protect what they have
dubbed “Tenax” from collectors.

The carnivorous plant grows like a vine to about 10 inches in height and mainly eats small insects, ants and an occasional lizard.

Pitcher plants grow throughout the Cape York region, while some found in Borneo, New Guinea and Sumatra are also capable of consuming small rats, mice, lizards or even birds.

A friend has a pitcher plant at the moment, it grows larger than a 2lt coke bottle. It is not native to australia though but is capable of eating small rats should the occason present itself.
