Well I guess it is common knowledge that I have only just got back from my last trip into the cape and while the saltwater fishing was slow (neap tides) the fresh certainly put on one hell of a show. There were, at times, five of us all hooked up at once which was something to see, and experience.

I have attached a few pics for you to look over.

The location we fished was private property.

Pics: from left to right.
Basic camp setup.
The Engel sits proudly in the back of the Cruiser
This little sooty fell to a small Halco Scorpion
Archer fish loved the little scorpion
No guess what the most popular lure was. By the end of the first day, all rods were rigged with the Halco Scorpion in the small size.

More pics. From left to right:
Nice Saratoga fell to one of the little Halco's
Griff with one of his first Sooty Grunter- he lost count on this trip.
Chris with the first saratoga he has ever caught and what a nice fish too.
the release....
me with a nice little sooty grunter, again on the Halco lures-these things were like junior burgers to a kid in McDonalds.

Last lot....

From left to right:
Don't bring anything other than off road vans up here otherwise this could be you.
Once we arrived back in Cairns, I took one of my boats out into the salt with a few mates the following day and these are a few of the fish we got. This one is a trevally.
Here is a cobia.

To sum up- a top trip away again and heaps of fun, fishing and a few beers too. Only problem is that I now have a car at the mechanics with a buggered head (not good on a 2HZ motor!!!) and a few weeks till I head up again.

Life is tough.

If I lived in Cairns I could follow you Ant or even take my patrol when your toyota is sick.

You must love your toyota, looks after you on a trip and you repay it with a head job.
Did you like the photo of my bass?

Had a great time camping, was a lot of flow in the river from lots of rain . Just chilled out and done absolutely NOTHIN. Didnt even get in the canoe.2007 must have been a bigger year than I thought. That number 50 has taken its toll on me.

Chillin' is good, doing that a lot myself these days.
50!, been there, done that a few years ago.
Just remember one thing, it's only a number.
Though, it does take longer some times these days, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

What's the canoe?
I've got a 16' Rosco.
Bought a 3.5hp Mercury and bracket a few years back, apparently one of us prefer an outboard over paddles.
Might have to make an outrigger, it certainly is fun without one.

Youre right it is only a number. Both my canoes are fibreglass canadian style canoes.Just got paddles and im the motor. Only one canoe usable, busted one when my trailer fell in half on the Cape in 2004 and havent got around to fixing it yet, cant rush these things. We normally put in about 10ks up from camp and fish on the way back.
Broke where the front tie down goes across.

Campdog, do you know anything about the Kindee area inland from you? I think it's about 20 - 30 minutes from Wauchope.

I was keen to find out what the year round weather is like down that way.

Hi Batesy, I thought you had dissapeared off the face of the Cape.
I live about 20ks from Wauchope on the coast. We have the best climate in the world here. (Australia anyway). We camp in he winter hear and its not that cold at all. There are some great camping spots out the back of wauchope. Ive been here for 30 years. A lot of the area is a lot like most east coast hinterland, a bit like atherton of gold coast hinterland.Winters have a maximum of 19 and summer about 25-27 average.

The missus and I were thinking about having a gander down your way. Missus says we need a change of scenery - I'm thinking she means: location, although it is possible that she is sick of looking at me!

I've been bitching about the heat up here since October, so I figure I better start looking for an alternative place to live. That way we can holiday at Mum's house up here in the winter!

Maybe I could get a job here during winter for 3 months and live on the proceeds down south for the other 9 months? Jeez, hang on a second ... that should read: Maybe the MISSUS could work for 3 months...

Somehow I don't think she'll be into that.

Theres not much at Kindee but the rest of the area is great.I thought I wanted to live in Weipa but I think the heat would kill me. I dont think you could find a better part of the world.
If you would like any information about the area or anything just let me know. I know where there is a great daycare lady.
