Well, folks, here's the latest news... the highly esteemed publication that is Cape Yorker is now under the sole ownership of Ant.

Yep, that's right, Batesy has bailed out..!!

It's been a while coming but I think it was always destined to work out this way. Anthony has been a wonderful motivator and partner in this effort so it is only right that he take on the full BURDEN of ownership! Ha ha..

Trying to start and run a magazine is a tough business. The missus and I really punished ourselves back in 2005 when we put together that tiny first edition. Originally I had envisioned a 200 page QUARTERLY publication!! What a bloody moronic idea that was!

I racked up an unbelievable amount of kilometres trying to make that first issue happen. I door knocked ever man and his dog trying to interest anyone with advertising and promotion. I targeted Cape businesses, I hassled scores of Cairns businesses, a dozen gulf country businesses ... I worked my ring off ... I've never been so ecstatic (getting an ad) or demoralised (shown the door).

The frustration nearly broke me. It was so heartbreaking to go to print with 32 pages - what a let down from an ambitious 200 pages. The fact that we had no idea how to even make a magazine just made the experience even tougher.

Fast forward to the 2007 edition.

I had promised myself that I never ever wanted to be involved in a magazine ever again after the first edition. I hated being a salesman, I hated throwing money away, I hated being everything to everyone. And yet ... we couldn't give up the baby.

Then along came Anthony. 5 months of butting of heads against walls finally produced the 180 page 2007 Edition. The feedback has been terrific. The magazine is distributed nationally in newsagents. We get phone calls and letters of support.

But my heart truly isn't in it...

I love to read magazines and I love Cape York. What I don't love is being the fella that brings both of these loves together.

So as of a couple of days ago, Anthony is the kingpin. He's the guy who has the commitment and drive to make Cape Yorker something special. Anthony has that 'EverReady Bunny' thing happening - he just doesn't stop. You'll find his quickly graying head pressed against a computer screen or phone 24/7!

Me ... well motivation finds me surfing the net for electric sports cars (http://www.teslamotors.com/design/gallery-body.php) and hilarious videos (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bErBZ5XexV8). Anything that allows me to avoid doing magazine work! :)

Personally I believe that the magazine will only grow over time and judging by reader's responses it seems like it has some great support. Of course I'll be logging onto this forum and also contributing an article or two in the next edition. But that's it for me.

My wife and I have other plans. Our future endeavors will hopefully be in book publishing. We plan on printing my novel (if I ever finish writing it) and some children's books - both featuring Cape York.

Hopefully I can convince you mob to buy 'em...!!

Cheers
Batesy

Bloody hell, Tully ... I forgot about your sticker. I've got them all here, just haven't got the backing for them... still..!!

I'll make it my mission to get you a sticker eventually ... you can count on me to follow through, trust me ... just ask Ant how good I am at keeping my word!!

It has taken me a while to get back on here due to work demands. Seems the only time I have 'spare' is early morning and late at night. Usually nights are out as I would rather spend the time nestled up to a good bottle of scotch.
Yes, thanks Batsey for leaving me with the running of the mag (Between you and I, they still can't wipe the smile off his face!!!).
I owe a massive credit to both Chris and his very patient wife Janine for all they have contributed to the Cape Yorker. This is more than just a magazine and it is very hard to come to grips with the whole thing. The Cape Yorker is really a lifestyle and a passion. We have put a lot of blood sweat and tears (and dollars!!) into the project and I know that this was a hard decision for Chris to make.
The hard part now is for me to keep the momentum both on the magazine and this forum which has grown from strength to strength (thanks again to Chris and also to all the members).
I may not have the time to dedicate as much to the forum but at least now i have no excuse.
Chris- you have not left the mag- it is still in your heart and I know that you will still be involved in some way, shape or form.
At least next year when you move to Cairns you will be a lot closer to the main office.
To the forum members-thanks for your support and I look forward to the future. Lets see where this thing goes..................

Nope... you don't have any excuses, mate... Just stop mucking about with all that scotch drinking and hurry up and get the next mag out.

And another thing ... did I win the fridge and gennie or what?

Probably knocked it off for yourself, didn't ya?!

Whatever you do, just don't let Campdog win them ... he'll just drown them in a creek somewhere!!

Gee Thanks Ian,
At this point in time (head down with another publication and only two months to go till print with the 08 Cape Yorker) I kinda feel like bailing out too. Only problem is that there is no-one else to hand the batton to. Looks like Batsey beat me to it and you all though he was the 'slow' one!!
