Just looking through 2007 CY magazine saw the ad for CY Helicopters just wondering if anyone that went to the Cape this year took a scenic flight, how was it and what was the cost per person. As I am thinking of adding it to my must do list for my 08 trip.

When we were at Punsand Bay last year a 5 minute rip around the tip was 99 bucks.

Spoke to someone while we were up there, they also did the overnight thing to Horn, sounds like a good deal.
That's what we'll be doing next time.
The chopper landed on the beach while we were there, so it was still running, don't know cost though.

We went on a one hour flight with Bunjee Scott (Blue R44 Chopper) and it was the highlight of the trip.
We took of from the beach at Punsand Bay and flew across to the tip. We left here and headed south to the Jacky Jacky system and sighted crocs (up close), sharks, rays and fish we couldnt name.
We then flew in Top Gun fashion through some tight canals which raised the adrenalin a fair amount and then proceeded inland over the Croc Tent / Lockerbie and then we got onto a bunch of pigs (must of been 20 at least) which we raced down. After this we flew along the coastline and viewed some reefs etc. Total flying time was just over an hour.
For the three of us the total price came to $250 apiece but I would pay this again without hesitation. Both my mates were a little hesitant about paying this beforehand, but they both agree now that it was worth every cent and it was definately the highlight of the trip.
Strongly reccomend flying with Bunjee Scott. He is an ex-mustering pilot who really knows his stuff.
Cheers

I agree that it would be worth it. we had a family of 4 so it was not in the budget, but to see the tip of the Cape from a different view would be worthevery cent. I met the pilot on Punsand bay beach as well, great people.
I wonder how much they'd charge to take a run down to Temple Bay? Gotta find the Mag. again and check it out.

Sounds good Chieffy, I reckon it will be worth the $$ It's a good way to get things into perspective. I will have my teenage daughter and 7yr old son with me should be a great experience for them something they will remember for the rest of there lives. Definately going to do it.

I have always wanted to to do the Postman for a day run out of Cairns with Cape ork Air in a plane. I know what the Cape looks like from the ground but would love to fly over the place. The closest Ive been is looking from google earth.

This is the helicopter working off the beach at punsand bay.The pilot lives up the beach a bit and i was fishing off the point.what a noise he made warming it up. I had no idea what the noise was until he flew out from behind the tree line.

Hi all,
Just got back from another trip into the Cape. In regards to the helicopter flights, I have heard that Bunji has moved on-best to check details before you get too excited. I would give the guys at Punsand a call to check first.
Campdog: I am looking at covering the mailrun in an article- do you want to be the lucky person to jump in the plane and take a few pics and write it up?
More on my last trip as soon as I get through all the emails and clean up the camping/fishing gear and wash the cruiser.

Dont tease me its hard enough as it is. Id love too, especially the day it does most of the Cape.I wa supposed to go to Cairns and do the flight for my 50th birthday but decided to take my wife and family to the Gold Coast for a week instead.
Just about to finish a layby of a pentax K10d SLR, should have it next week and practice over christmas. Dont think I am allowed outside 100ks of home at the moment though.I think ive used up all my browny (cape escape points)points.
