Yes, I occassionally did panel repairs on her trucks when I worked for Michna's Towing Service in Cairns many years ago. Did you have any connections to her?

Hi Dipmaker,
Didn't know her personally, but She was a legend up there when I lived there.
I don't have the TV Doco. on her, but I've got at least one magazine article.
Did you know German Jack? I didn't but my ex. did. I've tried to get some info. together on some of the Cape characters, but haven't got an awful lot.
Haven't looked at that stuff for a few years, so I'm not sure what I've got now. I'll have to get to it this week and see how much I've got. Batsey might like copies of some of it for the Mag. maybe. I was so glad to find that.
I still miss the Cape like crazy.
Thanks for the reply,
xina.

I can't remember German George but the name sounds familiar. Is he the bloke who swam across the Daintree River at the ferry crossing for a stunt?

Swim the Daintree :o

It may be ex-German George ;)

Hey Xina, If you have any info on "Cape Characters", I reckon Batesy would certainly like the info! I would too! Any stories of interest I like and I reckon the Cape would have produced heaps!!

In fact, I think that's a great idea......if anyone has interesting stories of old, about the Cape......how 'bout it!

Ive read some good books on the Cape. Rice in the weevels,Cape York Juliet,A book about the woman who ran the first croc shop,Ithink it was called the crocodile woman, and recently a book about the early days in the batavia gold fields, A savage frontier was a good read on the cape history as well as a book about kennedys expiditions. Anything with cape york written in it. Ive even read Batesys Capeyorker magazines abou a dozen times. Im still looking for more to read.

If any of you come across old copies of the Australasian Post magazine, and People mag. they're worth checking out as they used to often have articles about people of the Cape in them. German Jack was featured in one, after I left the Cape the first time.
I won't put it all in here, as I haven't got the hang of scanning etc. yet, and it would take too much room. I'll copy it and send it up to Batesy, so you'll probably be able to read it in the mag. sometime.
He was murdered at the Stubby Hut. Is it still there? Toots' husband Ron found his body, about 4 am one morning, in 1990. There was talk of a memorial being built for him. Does anyone know if that happened?
I think there should be one to Toots as well.
Have any of you heard of Bill Toohey? I don't suppose the Bagnalls are still living on their houseboat on the Archer, 25 ks.upstream from Arakun?
I've put a few book titles on another site, but I never know if I've got things right, so if you can't find them, just e-mail me.

Don't know if Jack did that. Wouldn't have been Michael Fomenko would it?

Hi Ant,
They're on the way. Hope you can make sense of them. When I get up there you'll have to show me how to send things on the Internet. It was so good to be able to talk to someone about the Cape last night. Haven't done it for a while. People live a totally different way of life down here.
Thanks for that,
xina.

Hi Xina,
It was an absolute pleasure talking with you the other evening. I am going to have to hold you to a trip back up the Cape. I think we may have to allocate at least a few weeks though as you sound like you have a lot of places and people to catch up with.

I will let you know when those articles arrive.
I am leaving for a trip up to the cape on Monday (3rd) and won't be back until the following Monday (10th) so please excuse me if I don't reply until then.

Have a good trip Ant, they'll be there when you get back. Don't worry, you might regret that offer, 'cause I'll hold you to it.
Have fun,
xina.
