Okay, everyone in the Cape knows I'm a wonderful fella, but I reckon you lot on this forum aren't so sure...

So, in a show of unprecedented wonderful-ness, I've avoided the beers and two-up on Anzac Day and have instead spent the day in the trenches designing a front/rear windscreen sticker for you mob.

I'm not sure if we'll be giving these out free or whether we'll be charging cost price ... I'll talk to the sticker people to see what the damage is.

Thats sounds good. If you go and see kingchevy see if you can find out were he caught a beut barra next to some falls. He's got the photo in the 4wd monthly forum under the thread "cape york be prepared " It's his secret spot he reckons he won't tell annyone. I have offered him beer but no response. To everybody up there i am a "bloody" tourist but i am all for keeping the secret spots secret as long as I know were they are :)

That photo of the Barra and falls can get the unwary visitor to Cape York into heaps of strife. I know it has certainly got me into a whole heap of trouble once before.

I was there the day that pic was taken. The location is fantastic, unfortunately it's only a very select few who can get permission off the station managers to go in there. I'm pretty sure that I'm never going to be welcomed back with open arms! And I'd be surprised if another person is allowed to set foot on site either. Locals or touro's.

I got such a bollocking over telling people where it is that I'm too scared to even name it online.

KingChevy is a smart lad, I reckon he's probably reluctant to say anything in case he cops an ear bashing too.

It's a huge can of worms... but not the kind used for fishing.

When you mentioned the idea and I saw the images of the stickers, I rekon they are going to look great on any 4wd-even the Patrols!

Might have to make up a boat sticker too, seeing as though fishing is so popular.

Saw an appropriate sticker for the Patrols today while driving. Simply said "Rent-a-bomb"

Maybe we should make a few of them up with the Cape Yorker logo-just to be fair.

They will look good on the truck for our trip up there.

The mag hits the news stands soon - and of course subscribers will be receiving theirs next week - so hopefully we'll get a few new users on the forum to make this place worthwhile for everyone. We aim to make this place a usable and un-to-date resource for info on the Cape

Over the next few months we're thinking that we may throw a free sticker to the first 100 users who request it - just throw me an email with your address if you want one.

Yoyo and Nedly, I already have your addresses.

Any idea on Dimensions yet so that I can start thinkng were it's going. Because if it a windscreen one I have to take of my Explor OZ one off as yours looks heaps better. Will it be on white background or clear. My Opinion would be Clear looks classier. Have the magazines been posted yet. Can't wait to get it

Yoyo, I think the lettering will be WHITE and it will be cut out so that you can space it accordingly. The length of the current design lettering is 1000mmm wide by 100mm high.

Apparently they can print any colour except WHITE on clear backing - simply because white is a default colour.


Do you blokes reckon white lettering is the way to go?

It looks like they're not going to be printed on clear vinyl (they can't do it up here) - so all the lettering and croc head will be computer cut vinyl.

I'm changing the stickers...

I put a 'croc crew' one on the windscreen yesterday ... and well, it looks .. average.

I'm thinking that a standard 'www.CapeYorker.com' one will be better on the screen, that way people will log onto the forum. The current one has everyone looking at it ... but nobody knows what it is ... or where to find us!

I'd like to shink the 'croc crew' one down to a bumper sticker size - with the tag line under it: catch us online @ www.capeyorker.com/forums

I'm also making a larger sticker to go on the rear window or side rear that just has the croc and the web address.

I'll post some pics once I get them stuck on ... that way you guys can give me some feedback on what you think is better.

Once I get the stickers I'll make a little tutorial video on how to put them on your car and post it up. These stickers have to go on properly first time - otherwise you may as well throw them away because the vinyl stretches..

My problem with it is that it doesn't mention Cape York. And it doesn't entice new members to the forum.

I know this is primarily an identification method to recognise other forum members ... but I still think we need to draw in a whole range of members to the forum.

I logged into the lonely Planet forum the other day and offered a few bits of info for overseas travellers eager to find out about the Cape. Some mentioned that there was no info. That's no good. Some thought it okay to swim in fresh water creeks, etc.

I know I want you blokes on the forum to have the best experience whilst travelling up here ... I also hope you feel like telling others how to make their trip even better.

Yoyo- Sorry to say that I do agree with you on this one. (even though you own an inferior vehicle). The whole croc body looks good. I think we also still need the 'bumber' sticker too as there are many applications for this too.

Lets think about poor ol' YoYo broken down on the side of the road in a ditch. At least he can hold up the bumper sign to attract the attention of a cruiser driver.

Ps: Cruiser drivers carry 'special' recovery gear for the purpose of Nissan owners. This is part of an unwritten law in the Cape!!!!!

It needs a few things changed.

Firstly, I may have to reduce it in size a fraction, I will also have to alter the tail a little so that it is a bit higher. As it is now it is too low.

I have just scraped the Snake racing sticker off the top of my windscreen in preperation 4 the new 1.

I tried to change the tail a bit so it sits a little straighter but more aggressive.

As for the body, well I had to leave it pretty much the same. Everything I did seemed to leave it either too thin or too thick. It all looked too out of whack... so there's not much change there.

The WWW bit is a little jagged on top to start the blend into the tail. The feet are still weird... but I couldn't make it look any better.

Also, I have shrunk the sticker to about 800-900mm in length and the letters are a bit smaller in height (about 70-90mm). Hopefully no dramas with seeing through the windscreen now!

Comments welcome ... though I gotta tell ya, I'm not keen to work on this thing any further. I'd like a life outside of forums and stickers, even if you mob don't want me to! :)

Mate patrol owner put them on the back window and cruisers on the front.
Patrol owners will look through the rear vision mirrors to see the sticker on the towotas, and they can look at the back of the patrol.AS USUAL

Nah, still lurking around on the inter-web... been a busy lad lately. I'm trying to write a book - you know, like a proper one you find in the library. I'll try anything to avoid real work!! Not sure how it's going to go, never written a book before ... seems like a lot of pages to fill. I'm sure I'll be able to ramble a bit, might even be able to steal some ideas off this site since the book is set in Cape York!

I think it will take me the rest of the year to get it to a finished stage. But the Missus has given me until early July writing full-time to try and knock out as much of it as I can. So I'll probably be disappearing off the face of the earth as of Friday this week until the first week of July.

And don't worry Yoyo... there will be beer, rum, rifles, fourbys, fishing and a whole swag of other stuff in the book. Might even be a couple of characters named after some of the galahs on this forum!!
