Forgot to say it's not like a possums' ringtail, it's a black and white striped bottlebrush type tail, about 1" through (sort of), and the stripes are about 3/4 of an inch wide, just in case there was some confusion.

xina,

Missed this post, that's exactly what I saw now that you mention it!

Great news guys. Some-one is interested in the banded tailed Quoll. Even without a Photo, if we get one more sighting, they'll consider trying to find it.
Cheers,
xina.

xina,
That is great news.
I will keep an eye out for it on the next trip at the end of this month as we are going into pretty similar territory.
Pity Norm isn't going to be there as he is my unofficial wildlife spotter and photographer.

Hi Ant, Normie will probably have spoken to the guy by now. I talked to him last night, and any sighting of any Quoll in that country is of interest to them.
He's with a NQ Quoll research group (I think that's what he called it). He said something about seeing if you could put out a bait for it, (non-poisonous of course ) to try and get a photo maybe. Not neccessarily you, but anyone in the area it was seen in. I didn't give him your name, and only gave him Normies' phone no. after I had asked first.
I only gave him a general idea of the area.
I had e-mailed the Napranum Council Ceo. before contacting any-one else, in case they might have wanted to be involved in trying to find one, but have had no reply. Again, no names or specific areas was mentioned, just that it had been seen in their country.
Tried Australia Zoo, and got a reply I wasn't happy with. Then I tried one of the other Quoll sites, and got a positive response. I just wish some-one could get a photo of the darn thing.

Cheers,
xina.

xina,
I am happy to assist and will be back up in the area for two weeks at the end of this month (October).
It won't be a problem for me to lay any traps and see if we can actually catch one of them.
I will even be a good boy and try not to run it over this time!!!

Wonderful Ant. Be great if you could get a shot on the first real attempt, wouldn't it? You never know, they might even name it after you if you do.
Cheers,
xina.

xina,
I have a lot of goals in my life but never considered having an animal named after me- pretty scary thought from where I am sitting.
I think that if I did catch one and had some sort of input into its' name then I would rather have Norm involved.

Hi Ant,
If you manage to trap ANY sort of Quoll, please take a Photo of it, as they are interested in all sightings up there. Glenn mentioned something about another species of Quoll as well. I think he said it was called a Peach Quoll. I think that one has no spots. So whatever you catch please get a record of it.
Now all I need is for some-one else to see a Marsupial Tapir, or Thylacene, or Kuddera. ( I think that's the right spelling.)
Cheers,
xina.

Well, i saw a Thylacine in May last year xina. One of those really frustrating times when you dont have a camera. A friend of mine saw 2 Thylacines up here back in the 80's as well.

Hi Geoff,
I'm assuming you'e talking about live ones. Did the one you saw have stripes? The one I think I saw didn't, and there have been reported sightings further south without the stripes also.
Would you have any objections to my notifying some-one of these sightings, or would you prefer to do it yourself ?
Or could I just get them to e-mail you?
Won't do anything 'till I hear from you.
Cheers,
xina.

Yes, live ones. Go for it xina. I became a member of a Thylacine forum last year and a guy contacted me who was doing research on them. I think he was based in Townsville. The one i saw had stripes but they wern't very distinct.

My mate saw the 2 Thylacines together in the 80's just outside of Coen. The one i saw was beteen here and Weipa.

Did you tell them about your mates' sighting too Geoff? If you've already reported them, I won't need to.
Cheers,
xina.

Yes i did xina. They sent me a map of Oz with sightings all over. There were only a couple up this way. Most of them were down around NSW.

Did you know that years ago, the late Percy Treszice[?] used to say they were in the Quinkan Country area still? I believe he had seen them.
