Thought it was about time I posted a few of the 2500 odd photos taken by the wife and myself.
Don't panic, I will NOT be posting all the photo's.

Here we are in the carpark of the shopping centre at Smithfield, just waiting for last minute supplies before heading towards Kuranda.

This is representative of the Black Mountain Track.
This track is your typical main forestry track, no real surprises.
Nice drive with the added bonus of getting off the tar within 30 mins of leaving Smithfield.
If you take the turnoff you will end up at Mt Molloy, if you miss it (like I did), don't worry, you'll end up at Julatten.

This is typical of the road into Maytown from near Palmer River R/H

Apparently this the remains of a 'Robey' mobile engine

Part of the 'Old Coach Road' out of the Palmer River goldfields.

Remains of the Comet Mill, part of the handstoned-encased boilr and associated engine

For the trip out of the goldfields we averaged 10 km/hr for the first 2 hours, then 20 km/h for the third hour.
Once we hit the Laura-Jowalbbinna 6 lane dirt motorway it was 100 km/hr in to Laura, what's the story there, this road is ready for tar.

A nice Blue Fin.
We chartered a boat out of Seisia for the day (Cape York Adventure) and fished not far from the mouth of the Jardine, this was the catch of the day, rolled in pepper and grilled ...... beautiful.

A good Queenfish off the beach at Punsand Bay.
Spinning these with metal plugs was great, we landed a few between us.

Great photos Nedly.
Good to see you had a great trip. Im still to get to Maytown, did you go via the Coach road.
I took a lot of old nine photos at Batavia Gold fields and change my photos to sepia when I got home and look like they were taken a hundred years ago.
Good to see Im not the only bloke on the forum with mature hair colour.

Thanks Campdog,
We left Maytown via the Old Coach Road, interesting drive.
You should make the effort, it really is an interesting place, if you like a bit of history that is.
You just have to imagine carts going along that track to appreciate how difficult things were then.
As for making the road in, all by hand, incredible.

I would like to change the Maytown photo's to sepia as well, though I don't have the software.
What software do you use for your photo's?

As for the mature hair colour, we had a club meeting last night and someone was kind enough to suggest we be know as the grey nomads :( , uncalled for I thought.

We still have a heap more photo's of course, will post more in due course.

Nedly, I will make an effort to get to Maytown on next family trip, next year will be a drive n fish trip if all comes off. I love the history of the Cape. I use Kodak easyshare program for my photos but there is a lot of shareware and free downloads on the net. Ive also got Adobe photoshop but have no idea how to use it.I dont think the grey nomad will stick, they dont go off the tar and dintt look like you are ready for the caravan and dressing gowns yet.If you cant get a program let me know and I see what I can do.

If history is your thing then Maytown should definately be on your TO DO list.
I'll pm you some info on the place in the next couple of days.

I'll have a look for some shareware, never think to look on the net.
I'll check tucows, they usually have a good selection.
