Myself and Yoyo done the Cape in July this year. And thought it would be a 4wd trip but found it to be easy as well.Still will no regrets we went and are planing or next trip all ready. We both had trailers with tinneys on top, drove the OTL both ways to add a bit of excitment .But what you incounter this year will not be the same next year.Go a bit earler in the season and it is a new ball game with a bit of wet around. But what a great trip.

Theres plenty of 4wd places , but you need a bit more time to find them, try going to Bathurst Bay early in the year. Going to Chille beack and Iron Range National Park after a few showers and the red dirt changers to mud, A trip acrooss Frenchman Road and the Pascoe is fun as well, I thing the "cape York 4wd Adventure " is more to the fact that you need a 4wd to do the trip and not actually need it all the time. Mayby leaving the front driveshaft out could make things more adventurous.
I cant wait until next year to get there again. Only 7 months to go

The trip I did back in August 98 I found I rarely had to lock the hubs used 4wd for the drive out to Somerset on the sand, Gunshot, and most of the water crossings just to be sure. Wet season would be totally different wouldn't take much for you to be stuck somewhere for a while, As you would have seen it makes a bit of difference having a bit of ground clearence and aggresive pattern tyre which is usally enough to punt you around in 2wd but hey as John said it's all about the adventure.

Yeah, it's not a full-time four wheel drive trip when you get up here...

You might have to wait til wet season, Coza, mind you a a 4WD won't help then either ... a tractor might... or maybe a boat.
