Put a new Digital SLR on Layby for next years trip if it comes off. All I need now is to learn how to use it before next year,Does anyone else use an SLR camera.

Hi Campdog,

Yes, I have a Sony DSC-F828 (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DSC-F828-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B0000C8817) SLR/LCD. I'm certainly no photographer though, I keep telling myself that I have to read up on it and learn to use all the functions. In the link I hopefully added above, you can read up on it if your like. The reports says it all. It's not a professional camera, but it would have to be one of the best amateur cameras. I've taken some good pics with it and it has absolutely taken a bashing (we drag it everywhere we go in the caravan) and it hasn't missed a beat. So far I haven't taken it off auto, so when I actually read up on it, I might get better!

To demonstrate how this camera can make a shitty photographer like me look Ok, here's two photos.......one actually.........of a blue dragonfly I took on the Atherton Tableland. The first is the original, taken with 7x optical zoom from a distance of about 2 metres on 8megapixels.

The second is a blow up of the original. To me looks all the world like a macro pic......notice the hairs on the flys legs!

Best of all, this pic was taken on full auto. I didn't do much except push the button!

G'Day Campdog,

I've been reading up on my camera today, seems like I gave you a bum steer. It's not an SLR at all. Just a digital. Shows what a great photographer I am! (It looks like an SLR and sounds like one too.)

Anyway, it suits me. Hope you love your new toy! I'd like to hear about the photo's it takes when you get it!

I suppose I could hide it with all my other toys, Maybe hid it in my 4b,not under the seat though, must be above high tide in my patrol.
If I cant sell it I will have to keep it, bugger, I dont thik a reserve of $50,000 would be too high.

To help keep moisture at bay from humidity ect put a heap of tea bags amongst your camera gear as this absorbs the moisture - wrap them in a wash cloth to prevent spillage - also good in a unused fridge to. We use this trick when we had our fridge in storage and transit when getting moved around when I was in the services - no pong and no mildew at at all!
