Well we are only 9weeks away from our 1st trip to the cape.

We have the Jeep almost ready, the new camper will be ready in 3weeks and the plan has been planned over and over again. We are just reading everything we can and studying the maps every spare moment we have.

We can't wait to get up there....

Matt, i went for the first time this year myself.Had an great time.highly recommend the trip as i will be going again next year,i hope. The hardest thing about the cape is waiting for the time to go before you leave.Hope you have a great time.Watch out for the cape bug, once you catch it you will want to go back again.

I think I ahve come down with the bug and I have not even left yet. The only problem is finding enough to read about it.

had the bar, winch, lights and uhf fitted the other day. now just waiting for the camper.

That JEEP looks tops Matt.Take plenty of pics now while it is new and clean as it will never be the same again.I had a jeep last year done a few trips with it weekends and Fraiser with a camper.I did love the jeep, but sold it because we were doing the cape.
Reasons were lack of room for gear,4L petrol very thirsty,I only had a soft top and the dust will be every where. And parts up that way may be hard to find.

I agree, and the bug bites hard.
I will be back up there next year as well, just not sure of dates yet.
Planning is underway.

Its a Jeep thing indeed as we love to see the dust encrusted inside our vehicles - like war wounds - not only that they can be washed out with a hose after you remove the bungs in the floor of course.
I have high country mud, western victorian desert dust and it jus adds to the feel of the beast, yep they chew petrol so I will be trading mine next year for the diesel version, at 8 l to the 100ks ya cant go wrong.:p
Foregot to say you can blast the cheap carpet with the Karcher too!

Genuine Mopar. There is a front cover also that wasn't fitted in that photo. I brought it for the trip to try and protect from stone chip and also protect the intercooler for the turbo. And yep the fuel economy is much better than our old TJ and it isn't shy on power either.

Did you know you can but a clear plastic membrain type paint that you can brush on your 4b to protect the paint work from paint chips etc and it just peels off when you get back home, not that expensive as well.

We got back 3 weeks ago (seems MUCH longer), the roads were good.
Corrugations on the Bypass track North of Cap't Billy turnoff are rough.
Worst corrugations were on the road South of Lakefield Nat Park.

Plenty of roadworks on the peninsula when we were there, one dirt section was being worked on the way up, 10 km's of tar on the way back :o .

Just wondering what Nolan's Brook like? Been told very deep and need a snorkel? I have a water bra and a winch but I will be towing a camper trailer. Will I struggle? Is there a bypass?

Any advice would be great.

Mayy, Nolans brook is one of my favorite crossings, I watched for ages and decided to stop in the middle and fill my 4b up with water, just Be Prepared and have help on hand at any crossing and things will be
OK.My avitar photo is Nolans Brook.

Nolan's wasn't that bad in Aug this year.
Didn't even come up over the bonnet, I'll post a few pic's when I get them sorted.
It just depends on what time of the year you get there.
Walk the crossing first to check the depth then make your decision.
If in doubt, wait a bit, someone will not be far behind, watch them and see what happens.
Just remember, there is no shame in taking an alternative route, you are in a remote area, safety should always come first.

That would be awsome to see the pics. Walk the crossing? isn't there crocs? We leave in 3 weeks so I am hoping the water will be lower.

Unless the wet season comes early, Id say most of the creeks will be low and what dont have water you will wish they have so you can jump in and cool off.

Hey Batesy whats the word on the weather? Someone from cairns on another forum said there has been some storms and that it might be a bit dodgy going to the cape now?

What have you seen? Any info would be great as we leave next sunday....

Don't worry Matt, we won't be getting our wet season any time soon. We're months away from that. A couple of storms were trying to threaten us ... a few rumbles of thunder and that's about it. You won't be getting rained in up here that's for sure... unless you hang around til January/February!

Thanks for that, I though is was a bit early.

How are the roads at the moment? I have been told there is lots of road works and the development road has been graded quite regular.

Not a hope in hell.It will be filthy dirty and full of dust within a few days.Add a few water crossings and a shower of rain and it will look the part.No place on the cape for a clean 4b
