We're attempting to build a dedicated Cape York tourism site with a general map of the Cape, business listings, travel info and all that other stuff.
Anyone think they would find this useful...? Or maybe you guys have suggestions of what you would like covered.
The site will not have a forum but will be more of a tourism hub.
I'm keen to hear any thoughts.

Sounds like it would be a good idea, though there are a couple of dedicated sites that already exist.
A site dedicated to ALL things tourism is needed.
Most sites concentrate on tour groups or tag-along tours etc, no one site for the independent 4WD traveller.
A central site containing permit requirements, contact numbers, road conditions etc, etc, would definately make life easier. Should include links to accommodation and points of interest.
The only problem with this approach will be that you may have to give up your secret Barra fishing spots :D :D
It would be difficult to hold an unbiased approach to the web site, it will, I imagine, rely heavily on advertisements.
I have found getting open opinions of various areas difficult, you really need to talk to people that have previously visited the areas of interest.
I don't know, maybe I need to spend more time on the net.
Maybe I need to think more before responding.

Hey Les, maybe you need to spend 6 months travelling up here so you can research information for a website ... that way I don't have to build the bugger!!

Absolutely nothing... since it will even out when I have to charge you for tow fees!!
I think someone may have just done something very close to what you are talking about Batesy72. I found the site last week. i hadn't seen it before.

Yeah, they were supposed to be updating that CYPDA one... the info on it is really old. There's a few others around too - but I keep forgetting what they're called. I really should bookmark them.
Our site would probably be far more tourism targeted - if we push ahead with it. Trouble is I've got a 1 year old dirt magnet that robbing my sleep, so I'm lazy as all hell, but I know we gotta keep getting the Cape info out there.
If we do go ahead it will be something that is well designed and up to date... but that's only because somebody else will be building it...!
