Hi All,

I've been browsing through the posts this morning and decided I should register and say G'day and also to thank you all for a great read :)

I'm dead keen to try the Cape one day but I need to do a few things first!

We travel in a Ford Transit which comfortably tows our van, fits the whole family in and gives us enough tray space to carry our three trail bikes and 5 push bikes.....not that we'd take these to the cape! The next think I've got to do is convert the Transit to 4WD. Hopefully this will happen later this year or early next year.

Anyway, I'll no doubt have a few questions for you along the way, so thanks in advance.

Ian

Thanks for the welcome Highlift and Campdog!

We did a very small part of it last Christmas. Only went as far as Hope Vale so hopefully we might do some more soon. Perhaps a run up to Weipa next time we're in the area. The biggest trouble we have is with three kids, we're resticted a bit to school holidays. Christmas is the longest holiday but the worst time to travel north (rain wise).

Welcome Ian,

Sounds like an interesting set-up you have there. Obviously you've done a few trips in the Transit ... got any travel highlights?

Hi Batesy,

Sorry mate, I missed this question before, I wasn't really ignoring you :).
Yeh, we have done a few miles in her now (40.000km mostly trips), I'll post some pics when I revive the laptop (which has most of our trip photos). Just planning some future drives that I'd prefer 4WD for.

As for the Transit, it does suit us right down to the ground but........it is a Turkish Ford! So we've done a clutch at 1000km and a cracked head at 10,000km (actually the timing chain tensioner loosened off allowing the chain to throw and smack into the head - so Ford told me). They're the worst, but we've had a string of minors (cig lighter, air cond, turbo valve etc). I'm an optomistic sort so hopefully it's right now - thank god for 5 year warranties!

Don't think I would prefer to work on it but I'm sure we could...
