Got a week of in August and Mrs says were going away without trailer and car so must fly. I said Weipa or TI or Darwin and Broom Looks a bit pricy. Now its Cairns and hire a campervan (not allowed 4b ) cause I might go bush.Any other places we could go for a week where its warm and cheap.

Port Douglas is good, not sure about the cheap part this time of year though.
Thinking outside of the square, why not Nhulunbuy (spelling) on the Gove Peninsula, nice place and good fishing, not much else though. Stay at the Walkabout Resort :)

I'd suggest NZ ... flights are cheap but I don't think you'll get too much of the warm stuff that you're after.
You are right though... a week is never enough time to do anything properly, you only end up running around like crazy then, before you know it, it's time to go home again.

Got 3 days off now, going to take the family to the Gold Coast for a long, long weekend.I know its not the Cape but at least its in Qld, and the scenery is good too.A couple of cartons of crownies and a few prawns overlooking the ocean, yep that will do nicely.
Nice plan Campdog. Have a good one. We go there quite frequintly as we have a timeshare appt there. The Scenary is very spactacular at this time of year as plenty of european wildlife about. If you get time go to one of my all time favorite restaurants. It's at Benara/ Ashmore and it's called Ashmore Steak and Seafood. I guarantee you you won't leave there hungary or dissapointed. Big joint but book if going there on weekend. Very well priced for the size of the meals.
