Well that's it. Just got back from me mate Jimbo's place and we're goin and I told him if he drops out that's it I'll have to kill him so look out for me poor little hilux next year.
Good on ya' Googy.
Make sure you have enough time to do all you want to do. Who knows, if you leave it too long it will all be sealed. My last trip earlier this month saw more bitumen again since Jan, 07.
We need another natural disaster just to set the road crew back in work.
Not meant as a bad joke, just that a sealed road to the cape (or close to) will change things forever.

I nearly died the first time I saw bitumen road at bramwell junction. Now theres a bloody big section ready north of bramwell. Next thing there will be a camp book cape york for the grey army in their caravans to find a free camp.

Personally I like going early.
Googy-Plan your trip to the cape around what you want to see and do. What is it about the area that draws you there?

Mainly fishing Ant.
And as the worlds worst fisherman, I'd would like to have a look in at Bathurst bay, Lakeland, and some of the other top fishing spot that your gunna disclose to me. (being your new best friend and all.)

My brother in-law lives in Bamaga. He went to Weipa last week and he said they are preparing the road. He said it was so smooth it was like a HWY.:(
We will be up there at the end of October so I hope some of the spirit remains.

Anything with more power than the little 2.8l hilux
in regards to the road, I just had friends down from Weipa last weekend and the road has gotten a little ordinary in places so at least some of the adventure is still there. In my opinion, these areas should be left as they are. Development and progress have to stop somewhere. Imagine in ten to fifteen years time that the cape is as accessible as somewhere such as Cairns, 1770, Hervey Bay, etc. These places are great, but opening the road to the Cape for everyone is going to completely chage the whole place.
Our only saving grace is Mother Nature herself. Lets hope she throws a few more curve balls.
not happy Jan.

I agree 100%, there has been more than enough development done in places like Cairns and Port Douglas, Cooktown will be next now that there is black all the way.
Some places should just be left as they are, the only development should be for the benefit/use of the locals.
Off the soap box now.
