I agree , the mrs buys it every now and then,Its not too bad for a change, the only fidhing I do down here is fresh water gass in the warmer months, gone off outside fishing and would prefer one good cape trip or fishing trip per year. Always a tin of sardines I suppose.

I have never eaten Nile Perch used to cart a bit of it around many years ago every now and then in the back of freezer vans take it to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne fish markets. Had a look at it one day but thought I would give it a miss the look of the whole fish and the name of it put me off and the guy at the fish market reckoned it wasn't real flash, gave me a nice Snapper instead.

Nile Perch is a very close relative to the Barramudi and even was proposed to introduce it into australia for fish farming, I was finally rejected. Its a lot better than some of the farmed stuff from asia.

wouldnt eat nile perch if it was the last fish on earth. some chefs used to marinade it in beetroot juice, gives texture and colour of barra, then sell it for 30 bucks a serve, RIP OFFS , ate barra in yellow waters, cooked in the bush by a 13yr old native, BEST meal ive ever had, being a chef thats a BIG call, meekong cat fish being hailed as ocean perch, be careful out there of eating imported fish. sorry to get technical, carry on with the sledging, makes good reading.

Thanks Cookie, I have just chucked out the nile perch from the freezer. I listen to people in the know,Im not going to buy any meeow cat fish iether.
Just the thought of farmed asian prawns living in pens under chook cages living off chook sh*t is enough for me. If you hurry up this way Ill save you some scarlet sea perch.

where do you think the ( be careful now cookie ) locals in vietnam who farm the catfish ( perch ? ) go to the toi--t, in the river that they farm the fish in. i live in the 2nd largest fishing port in vic / southern hemisphere ( im told ) i watch the makos come into market and i pick what i want, thats fresh local fish, only 1 better, catch your own.

The thought of Chicken cages on top and prawn farm underneath doesnt do anything for me at all.Id rather pay a few extra dollars a kilo and buy decent stuff.
My favorite local fish is red spot whiting. A kilo af battered fillets, a shallow fryer on the barby and a caton of beer and tartare sauce for the fish.
