G'day,
Someone has told me that either the Sky Rail or the Scenic Railway is currently closed, is this correct.
When are they expected to be re-openned?
I will be heading to the tip in Aug and intend stopping for a rest day in Cairns, while there do a bit of tourist stuff.
Thanks,
Nedly

G'day Nedly,
According to their website: The Kuranda Railway is currently not operating due to track maintenance; it is anticipated to re-commence its services in May 2007.
When you're up this way be sure to take in the rail trip. Absolutely brilliant. The falls won't be anywhere near as spectacular as they are in the wet, but it's still a great trip. Plus it is close to Cairns.
You can also take a run up to Port Douglas along the ocean road (about an hour drive) then head a little further to Mossman and check out the Gorge.
Cheers
Batesy

Thanks Batesy,
Ah, website, never thought to check that.
We will have a rest day on the way up, before heading West to Maytown.
Will be returning via the Bloomfield track and will devote 2 or 3 days to the area.
Port Douglas is a great place, been there once before and looking forward to getting back to the area.
Probably a night at Cooktown, Cape Trib & Port Douglas before heading across to Chillagoe.
Mossman Gorge is definately on the itinerary.
I reckon one of the must do things in Port Douglas is to have breakfast with the birds at Habitat, if it's still running.
( Maybe I should check the website :) )
Did that a few years ago, well worth the experience.
Nedly.

Maytown, eh, Nedly?
Not one of them fellas with gold fever by any chance?

Nah, not gold fever, just interested after reading 'River of Gold'.
The area certainly has some history.
Though I have to admit, a little gold could go along way in financing the trip, especially at today's prices.
Pity you're not permitted to fossick in the area.
For those interested, I checked the website and they still do Breakfast with the Birds, it's worth doing.
Check it out at http://www.rainforesthabitat.com.au

Done, my lips can be sealed.
Do you know of any secret, red hot, fishing spots?, I promise not to tell too many people.
Just joking.
